Marylin Rose Frost lay in an icy capsule in the center of the king’s throne room. Jack himself was sitting in his throne waiting for the rest of the assembly to come. To his left sat Cassandra, her face wrought with worry and despair. Silverback and Deep Fang were laying at the edge of his chair calmly speaking to one another about the woods. The fawn and Marylin’s personal pet Tiffin stood by her frosted body. The snowman Frosty and the snowwomen Crystal were at the entrance. The doors opened and in walked Gareth, his mother the dryad to his left and Oberon and Tatiana the faerie royalty.

“Is everybody here finally?” Cassandra asked leaning over towards Jack. Jack stood up and walked down to where the faerie folk were entering and extended his hand. “King Oberon.”
“King Frost.” Oberon shook his hand quickly and pulled back from the cold. “You really are winter, amazing.”

“So I’ve been told.” He said, he turned around and with piles of moving snow Jack brought in two of the wooden chairs from the dining room. They stopped and Jack offered them to the faeries. “Now, first things first. The sickness is a disturbingly evil spell cast by my great grandmother to extend her life. She has currently cast it over and possessed Marylin, my daughter.”

“What are you going to do about it? She can’t just stay entombed in a block of ice the rest of her years.” Gareth said harshly. Jack looked at him flatly and smiled. “What?”

“That’s where the second part comes in. We need to find out how Shyna is still alive without a body. The Dryads will comb the forests as agreed, anything suspicious will be reported. The wolf pack is evacuating to safer grounds until this is settled out for fear of being turned into prey.

“Lastly, everyone here is going to keep their eyes open for any spell, enchantment or incantation they can think of that may be keeping her alive and well.”

“Why should we dabble in your affairs Jack Frost?” Tatiana asked cautiously. “I have heard the dangers of this witch. This Shyna may be too powerful.”

“Because, she’s not just after me. She’s after power and life. Immortal beings not made of snow and ice like myself. Flesh and blood like you, or the Dryads.” He turned around and pointed a hand at his wife, “or even other witches. She endangers us all.”

“What do you ask of me and my people?” Oberon asked quickly not wasting time.

“Research, look for a spell that can permanently bind someone. That way, we can get rid of her for good. That’s all I ask of you faerie folk.” Jack replied calmly. Oberon nodded and stood up and said his goodbye as his wings unfurled. Tatiana, a little more bitter, just walked out and flew away.

“They’ll do it. I know them too well.” Gareth said. “It’s hard having a ruling parent.”

“It’s hard being a ruling parent.” Jack added and went to his throne to sit down. “Mother Dryad, have you found anything on the Lycans?”

She shook her auburn haired head and sighed. “We just don’t know where else to look. It’s as if they’re coming out of nowhere.”

“They may be. Keep check and make sure you have sentries posted at the top of their trees.” Jack said sitting down on the bloody throne. “Try to keep them as safe as you can, and if you have to, cover the bottom of your trees in metal. Lycans can’t cut through metal too easily.”

“I’m going to see my mother.” Cassandra said abruptly. “If I can get her to freeze the forest then we’ll have a chance.”

“I can freeze…” Jack stopped when she looked at him. “Wait, that’s one of those impossible for me things isn’t it?”

“She keeps it to temperate, she’ll have to change the balance. Dryads, will you escort me?” Cassandra stood up and walked down in her bright red dress. They both nodded and the three of them took off.

“King, we have preparations to make.” Silverback said quietly. Jack nodded and snapped his fingers. The snowmen stood up on guard. “Thank you for the escort.”

“I’ll see you two when this gets sorted out.” Jack said standing up. “Be safe on your journey home.” The wolves nodded and began spriting towards the doorway. Jack walked carefully over to the little fawn Tiffin and patted his head carefully. “So, I take it you’re Marylin’s favorite?”

“I am.” Said the deer. “I want to help bring her back, what do I need to do?”

“Let’s go burn a cave down.” Jack said and began to walk across the room, the little fawn following. As soon as he stepped outside the large sleigh with ice bears popped out of the ground. Jack jumped up and the deer followed.

“Burn a cave down?” The Tiffin asked carefully. “Right, how do we do that?”

“With fire, lots and lots of fire.” Jack said as the sled skidded to a stop in front of a wooden door. The bears groaned and vanished into the icy surface leaving the little deer and the King to walk slowly across. Jack ripped the door off, years of ice making the wood brittle and easily broken. He tossed it inside and went in himself, the cave a cool little habitat when it was found that dust had come to inhabit. Jack walked over to the fireplace and found flint and stell ontop of the mantle.

“What’s that you’re doing there?” Tiffin asked walking across the cave floor looking around and then back to Jack. “Is that going to start a fire?”

“Just watch.” Jack knelt down next to the fire still in the place and began scratching the flint and steel together making sparks and eventually catching the wood on fire. Jack shoved the door in the fire place. It thawed and caught fire as well. “Grab some books.”

Tiffin went over to the shelves and picked up a book in his mouth and gave it to Jack. They spent a better part of an hour casting the precious spells onto the flame until they were ready to see the fire erupt, the little fawn rushed outside and waited the caves entrance was surrounded by flames. The deer screeched and retreated some more. Jack, laughing, casually walked out of the cave unharmed.

“Are you alright, little one?” Jack asked seeing how terrified the deer was. Tiffin nodded and they both climbed on to the sleigh and the ice bears were called back.

“So… Mother Nature is your actual Mother?” Gareth asked Cassandra. “And then your Father is actually Father Winter, so technically… I’m confused.”

“Everyone is, just accept it and move on.” Cassandra said entering the Hallow to hear the Blue Jays singing above their heads. “Well, you best get back to your trees, wouldn’t want you to die or anything. The two Dryads bowed and left, Gareth shaking his head.

Cassandra walked up to the small cottage door and began to knock. The cheery voice of her mother rang out and Cassandra stepped inside to be hugged. “Oh, my beautiful married daughter!”

“Yes… I know. I came to ask you for help on a few things.” Cassandra said quickly. “You being practically…. Nature.”

“Oh just a few?” Mother Nature asked. She sat down in the small wooden chair and patted the other chair for Cassandra. “What do you need help with child?”

“Strigori are attacking the forest.” An ‘oh my’ escaped her mother’s lips. “We were wondering if you could lower the temperature and let Jack freeze the forest so he can go in and kill them. They’re threatening my girls.”

“I’m sorry, there’s nothing I can do about the forest, I wouldn’t want the Dryads and Satyrs to leave, it’s their home and they have no rations for a winter. Maybe he could just walk through and freeze them? Or better yet, have the Dryads fight. They’re remarkable at it really.”

“They don’t want to, we already asked.” Cassandra began to move on to the next subject. “Do you remember Shyna, the Witch of Winter?”

“The one who made Jack?”

“Yes, she’s possessed Marylin’s body. How do we kill her off for good?”

“She’s obviously attached to something Marylin’s attached to. A tree, a dress, a squirrel. It could be anything. Just destroy that and no more magic. It’s all about power for her, you know. Now, is there anything more, I have to go back to creating creatures you know.”

“There is one more thing, about Jack. I’m looking for a spell…”

Klaus the owl landed on Jack’s shoulder. He bowed his head quickly and proceeded to give his report. “The wolves are moving slowly near the Dryad territories. Also, your wife made it safely to her mothers. And… there’s been no signs of recovery for Marylin.” Jack held out a hand and moved Klaus off his shoulder.

“Go tell Father Winter what’s going on, tell him will have to delay the project.” Jack said upset. He walked over to a large wall and touched the icy mirror, there in the mirror appeared a small little house where Nicholas Clause and his family were building their work shop along with the help of the Northern Gnomes. “When you’re done, go back to watching the wolves, I want to know when they’re making their move on the forest.”

The owl bowed and spread his wings taking off into the crisp sky.
