So temptingly sweet,
This forbidden fruit,
With promise of ecstasy
Entwined in it's roots...
To walk down its path
Is to invite certain doom,
But those so bedazzled
See nothing but the fruit,
The prize,
A thing to be had
No matter the cost,
Or the weight on their soul.
No matter the consequences,
The agony, the pain.
They see not the evidence,
Eyes leering in disdain,
Blindness encroaches,
Screams of pain...
They push and they shove,
And vie to be first,
Ignoring their senses,
Not hearing the curse.
Bones of the slain
Lay upon the grass,
The remains of the others
Who walked down this path...
The evidence is there,
Yet in droves they still come,
Not hearing the calling
Of those far above,
Those walking another way,
The path that leads upward,
Lit by one lonely Shepard
Leading the way.
