For the fibe words contest! :D
Katie bowed her head, a long curtain of her hair falling over her shoulder, seperating her from the angry eyes her mother had cast upon her. She didn't want the woman she admired so much to see her crying.
"What's wrong with you Katie? Have you ever considered the fact that colleges won't accept you now? What's wrong with you? Why in the world would you decide to fail math? Is it truely that hard for you to figure out simple equations?" The words stung Katie worse than her own dissappointment in herself.
'I didn't decide to fail math, mommy,' Katie spoke in her mind, 'I just couldn't keep up anymore.'
"And what will you do? Quit your job to make up the class after school?" Silence. But only for a brief moment. "KATIE ANNE. LOOK AT ME." Rage was filling her mother's voice. She couldn't hide herself anymore. Lifting the veil of dark chocolate hair from her face, Katie looked at her mother through blurred eyes. Her cheeks felt hot, and stung from the salty water running down her face.
"DO you think just because you're in almost all honors classes doesn't mean that you have immunity against doing well in your other classes?" Her mother's hands were balled into fists, which rested on her hips. "Well?"
"I... I don't know," Katie stammered, her voice raspy from holding in the sobs. "I'm so sorry, mommy. I really did try.." she whispered.
"Mommy? What are you, a child?" Her mother scoffed, tossing the dish towl that had been in her hand against the kitchen counter. Katie winced at the action. Her mother shook her head, then stormed out of the room.
Katie gave thanks, some peace coming to her from knowing that her mother's angry gaze was no longer upon her. The poor girl still couldn't help feeling like a bug, squished under a man's work boot.
Katie shook a little, and finally let the sobs come from her tiny form.

2008-01-10 Calann: Heartbreaking, but quite nice writing.

2008-01-19 Akayume: Thank you. :]
It oddly reminds me of my own life, though I've never managed to fail a class...
