[Calliope]: 216.Poems.Race of Life

I just want to run.
Break free, get away,
Before these assaulting emotions
Lead me further astray.
My breath is coming in gasps.
My heart beating too fast.
If I don't escape from any of this soon
I'm not sure how long I can last.
With feet flying over the ground
Carrying me as far as they can,
I push myself harder, relinquishing the pain,
Refusing to end up as another person damned.
I'm on this path, chosen or not.
The person I was, someone of the past.
What's still to come in this race of life
Even with help, cannot be forecast.
So I compete with the breeze
Weaving my way through the brush.
Life's posted the challenge
And I've succumbed to the rush.
You played your part
Now once again I'm alone
As I chase down my dreams
Knowing it's safer on my own.
