A young butterfly fairy walks to a water pool as silent crystalline tears fall from her face. They solidify into diamonds as they detach from her chin. Her purple tunic is torn and one of her wings broken. She looks around at her surroundings. The mist and fog are blocking her vision, but she doesn’t care. Her people were killed. Their village attacked. She kept asking herself why. Why did they want to kill them? What did they do? Her mom was dead. Her dad was dead. All the Jetsunè Butterfly clan has been wiped out, but her at least. Others might still be alive…
She kneeled down to the water and splashed her face. She then sat down and started to pick up the little diamonds. She would need them if she was going to survive on her own. The stones of many butterflies were very valuable.
Crack!
She jumped. Someone was near. She put the diamonds in a little bag she had with her and stood up. She wasn’t ready to die. She was only three-hundred years old…
“What’s wrong?”
She jolted around, “Neobè?” She gasped out.
“Yes?” The male cat demon walked up to her.
She flung her body at him, the only friend she had left. “They’re gone! All gone!” She held tight to him and cried, little diamonds kept falling from her eyes.
“Shush now. Who’s gone?” He pulled her from his shoulder. “Tèan, what happened?”
“Moths! They attacked our village!” He held her close as she spoke of her horrors. “Mom and Dad are dead and I couldn’t even bury them!”
Neobè heard a humming noise. He picked her up and darted towards the trees. He may have only been one-hundred years older then Tèan, but he knew he had to protect her. He hid in the trees still holding on to the crying butterfly. As the moths flew by he petted her hair and kept whispering sweet nothings in her ear.
“They’re gone.” He told her.
“I’m hurting.” She whispered.
“Is it your wing? It looks broken.” He reached up to gently touch the blue and purple wing.
“Yes.” She nuzzled his shoulder looking for more comfort.
“We’ll heal it once we get to my village.” He jumped out of the tree to go back to the water pool.
“You’re taking me to your village?” She asked in wonder. She knew most demon people refused to mix with fairies or spirits.
“Yes. My clan should welcome you. They’re a caring bunch.” He paused; looking at her while she picked up more tear diamonds. “I’m sorry.”
She looked up at him. He was fiddling with his black and white tail, and what of his he wasn’t holding, was slightly swaying side to side. “For what?” She questioned.
“For not being there for you.” His bright silver eyes were blinking away tears. “I haven’t been here for months. I’m sorry I disappeared on you.”
“You’re here now though. This is when I need you most.” She handed him one of her tear diamonds. “Here.”
“You can’t give me this…” She stared at the little jewel.
“Yes I can.” She hissed in pain.
Neobè was at her side in a second. “Let’s get going so we can be at the village by dawn. You need medicine.” He picked her up and carried her.
“Thank you.” She whispered before she fell asleep on his shoulder.
“Goodnight Angel Butterfly.” He whispered back kissing her forehead.
