If
by Annie T.
(Free Verse)

If I were a flower
I would reach for the sun
Everyday
And suck the marrow
Out of the Earth

If I were a cat
I would lay upon my back
Sprawled
One paw on my chest
And one upon my head

If only I were a dove
Sitting on a ledge
Coolly
As people passed me by
Merely tilting my head

But as I am me
I find the world dark
Stressful
Little annoyances and great challenges
With but a speck of light to guide me through.

2006-12-27 Calann: This is a very lovely poem, very light in a way. <3 One minor nitpick, should that be 'coolly'?

2007-02-05 Annie: Haha...yes.
