Missing what is really before you,
You scoot down another seat.
Careful, at that height
Your nose might start to bleed.

It’s too bad your eyes
Don’t look down a bit more.
If they did, maybe
You’d finally see the image before you.

Maybe you’d see the feet
That continue to move forward,
Despite the obstacles before them that
Cause them to stumble so.

Maybe you’d hear the knees
That knock together in fear
At the thought of being left behind,
Abandoned, because they can’t keep up.

Maybe you’d feel the hands
That are calloused by the same
Hard work you do
But that took more time and effort to complete.

Maybe you’d hear the heart
That beats so loudly, only because
It’s so big from trying to hold
The world in it.

Maybe you’d see the smile
That lights up the room
And reminds you of the joy
Of the small things in life.

If only you say beside them and listened,
Maybe you’d understand their language
And hear the lesson they are trying
To teach all of us.

If you listened, rather than silenced,
Encouraged, rather than scorned,
Smiled, rather than frowned,
Loved, rather than ignored,
Maybe then you could see them
For what they really are.

Maybe then, you could see
The creator within the creation.

Maybe then, you could see Him.
