This is just a short little side fic that has nothing to do with the Tough Love Series other than the characters themselves. This is for the Fairy Tales Contest.

Fairy Tales

Cool breath escaped the nostrils of the gryphon as he padded on the soil to reach the pool. His feathers ruffled in excitement as his talon touched the surface of the water. The dark mirror rippled, disturbing the lily pads enough to send a stray frog seeking safety. Bending down, the gryphon took a few quick laps of the freezing elixir.
Water was not what he sought that night, but a creature he had seen before, laying at the water’s edge. A figure that could only be described as godlike. Unfortunately for the gryphon, it possessed a fleeting soul and had darted away, but not before bewitching the heart of the gryphon.
Shaking its feathered head, the gryphon lay near the rocks. Its black coloring let it blend it to the surroundings easily at this late an hour. The gryphon’s gaze wandered up the sky, the moon was so far away tonight. Perhaps an omen? Were the gods telling him he was on a fool’s errand to catch another look at the glowing creature? Shaking the thoughts from his head, the gryphon released another deep breath.
The gryphon closed its eyes and let its head drop down to rest on its outstretched paws. Despite what he thought the moon was telling him, he would wait. An hour of deep silence passed, stars got brighter and the moon higher, but not another creature came to drink at the pool. Maybe it’s a forbidden pool, meant only for the gods? Mused the gryphon silently. That would definitely explain the creature’s appearance. Not that the gryphon had ever seen a god, but he had heard enough stories.
A snapping twig brought the gryphon from its thoughts and made it tense up in waiting. Golden eyes watched, forcing its instincts down, waiting for the light. The gods seemed against him that night. The figure was not of his creature, but of a fat cat. It bent down to lap at the water and the gryphon felt its rage growing. The rage left as a clear voice rang out.
“Archimedes? Where’d you go, you silly cat?” The owner of the voice was soon released from the shadows. The same creature from before! The feathered body was suddenly tense again, cursing itself for its jump to anger before. He had nearly attacked the pet of his deity!
“There you are.” The creature cooed as it picked up its pet. Said pet glanced in the gryphon’s direction and emitted a low hiss. The figure frowned and squinted its eyes, trying to see what upset it. The gryphon froze before crouching low, making itself as small despite its size.
Another twig snapped as the figure cautiously made its way to the rocks. The gryphon took a quiet deep breath, trying to catch the scent of its idol, hoping to be able to follow it should it run again. The smell of ocean spray hit the bird lion’s nose. So its beauty was seafaring. How odd for it to be so far inland. The sea was beyond the mountains far in the distance.
“It’s you again…” The creature whispered out as it knelt down a few feet from the large hybrid. The gryphon cooed slightly as it stepped from the shadows of the rocks. The deity smiled as it saw the gryphon’s submissive behavior.
“Come’re…” The spirit called out, beckoning it forth. The gryphon was happy to oblige and trotted forward, fluffing his feathers as to not be menacing.
“Did you come all the way out here for me?” The smile turned into a laugh as the gryphon nodded eagerly.
“How sweet of you.” The gryphon looked away bashfully.
“However, you’re just under my siren spell. I’m sorry…. I-I didn’t think you would have fallen in such a short—…” The gryphon voiced its displeasure. He was under no spell! To prove his point he nipped at the hand of the siren. Had the gryphon been under the spell, he would not have harmed the siren.
“Why are you not under my spell feathered one?” The siren’s eye widened as the gryphon transformed into a more human figure and pressed his lips against those of the siren.
“Because I was too busy falling in love….” The gryphon answered as he caressed the cheek of the smiling siren.
“Very cheesy.”
“So?”
And for the rest of the chilled night barely a sound was heard, save the sounds of two creatures in love and the mewing of a very annoyed cat.
