[Eidlevice]: 521.Papa's Letters. Poetry
Rating: 0.00
I found them that day
In a bed of black dust they lay
Papa’s letters
So carefully had they been
Opened and almost as
Carefully, they were
Closed
Locked away in an age
Old trunk, they were
Bruised
Papa’s letters
Who they were from,
I had no clue
Wrapped in a package
Of blue
I opened the package
And the seal broke again
As it had done with my
Papa so long ago
With hesitating hands,
I touched the folded paper
I couldn’t bring myself
To open the letters
As carefully as I had lifted
The letter, I placed it
Back in its rightful place,
Among the other letters
Who had written these letters,
I did not know
From grandma, perhaps, it
Could be so
Or a lover of papa’s, from
Long ago
Why he kept these letters, I
Wondered, they must be
Special
For you papa, I will keep
Them a secret
No one should know
As I saw papa in his silk
Lined casket, I remembered
The letters
Locked away for safe
Keeping
I returned that day, for
Papa’s trunk
Now, with more confidence,
I opened the package of
Blue
Inside the envelope, a
Paper full of childish
Scribbles and drawings
A name had been left at
The bottom of the page
Laura Mae, it read
My name, my drawings
But papa’s letters
