[Chapter 1] :::

away in a day...

[V]

yla..." The call resonated through her empty ended thoughts - her dreams of what have already come to pass.

"Does no one in the world or heavans know what shall pass in the latter interval of time - or is it all just a dream?"

"A dream...of what?" The soft voice of a lover entered hearing range. Not her lover...not her ears...but had she not heard her name be spoken?

" 'What if all we see or seem, is but a -' "

" 'Dream within a dream.' " The statement was cut off and finished in a song-song, soft but harmonious voice.

"What if all we've done as we lived was just one dream after another, created by our own subconscious. Prepares you for eternal life up in the clouds, or down below in flames..."

The soft featured woman beside her seemed to consider this for a moment while putting on a top. She sat down on the bed again, cross legged, still in her underwear but instead of a bear torso, a softly colored green and peach plaid mid-thigh camisole. Her gentle smile widened as she found the thought it seemed she'd want to focus on for the rest of her life.

The not-so-Vyla's body sat up and put on a sports bra, her not-so-her's hand reached over and pulled out the girl's hair scrunchie. The gir's hair cascaded over her shoulders, as orange as the rising sun's rays behind her form. Vyla realized how beautiful this girl is - or was.

"Adily, what are you thinking of, my dearest?"

"About how, if your theory is correct, then you are the first real dream I've had in a long time." She - Adily - breathed out a little sigh and pressed on with a smile. "My light in a dream that appeared from my nightmares.

"But for now, while you tink of that thought, I must go out." She kissed Vyla beside her mouth, grabbed her bag and a pair of black to green pin stripped spandex leggings and smoothed them over her legs. She slipped on her combat boots and was out the door. "I promise you, Chelyth, I will be back soon."

Chelyth's body stood and wandered into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. She was reaching for a toothbrush when she heard tires halting on the street infront of their apartment.

Vyla floated along with the body she was invading the privacy of to the window ledge on the other side of the room - Chelyth had ran and all buth leapt completely over the bed.

On the street was Adily fighting with men in uniform...

"Vyla!"

My eyes open, I am myself now...right?

"Vyla, babe." This time a familiar, smooth, sexy voice broke my thoughts - as empty ended as they are.

"My Raven." I reach up and push his near shoulder length black hair behind his ear, his sic piercings visible. None the less he was adorable.

"Bad dreams again?" He whispered against the nape of my neck.

"This time I got names. And a good look at the girls' faces."

"I wondered who Adily was."

He'd stated it so simply, like he could read my mind. He's mysterious yes, but I don't believe he's that good.

I sigh and murmmer that phrase again. It had been resonating through my head.

" 'What if all we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.' "

"Babe, since when did you get emotional to read poetry?"

"Who is that?"

He looked puzzled so I pushed his hair behind his other ear. I rarely get to see emotion in his eyes.

"You recited it, I thought you'd know..."

"The girls said it, it kept ringing in my ears..."

"Edgar Allan Poe, 'Dream Within A Dream.' He's old, not a lot of people know him anymore, even thought he was about a god. He'd started the genre of 'scary stuff.' "

His laugh booms through his chest and I feel his skin vibrate on mine.

"I'm not very 'deep,' so I shouldn't know him anyways. I'm here as an angel of vengence. I think I was sent here for these two girls, or one at least."

I push his hair back again, his head is cocked funny so he can read my eyes. It feels like I'm in another dream, but I know I'm not. I used to feel his warmth and affection tingle in my fintertips, now I feel nothing. When I left my family and birth name - Violyt - with him to train, I'd thought he was 'the one,' now I'm not so sure...I don't even know him. My Raven. I've never known him as anything else.

Now i don't even believe in 'the one.' I don't even believe God is real. But there's something about that girl...Adily...
