Before the Fall

When he traces his fingers over her ribs he's reminded of life bursting forth from nothing. Feeling her lungs expand under his fingertips and seeing her eyelids flutter as she sleeps makes him want to hold her, to protect her, and keep her. Like with Eve he felt they were the only two on earth. He had given her a piece of his rib and God had breathed life into her. She was perfect. He fell asleep with two fingers resting on her back, and matched his breathing with hers. They were the beginning.
