Physical Science - Chemistry
How does detergent help remove grease from clothes?
~Detergent helps remove grease from clothes by making the water molecules smaller so it can get into extremely small places like the pores of clothes where grease is stuck

Earth Science - Meteorology
During which season do most thunderstorms occur and why?
~Summer has the most thunderstorms because of the moisture and dew on the ground

Health and the Human Body - Immune System
Many people suffer from hay fever. How is this condition related to hay? Does it cause fever?
~This condition is not related to a fever. Hay fever is an allergy. It is not triggered by hay. You can get hay fever from genes or from being around pollen too. Maybe from working at a horse farm, hay manufacturing company, at an apple orchard, or at a pumpkin patch. Hay is naturally grown weed, and is usually dusty. Histamine is what causes the symptoms of hay fever, so you take anti-histamine, which eliminates histamine.

Health and the Human Body - Circulatory System
Why does a doctor sometimes take a sample of your blood when you have a check up?
~A doctor sometimes takes a sample of your blood when you have a check up is because they can check to see if you have any illnesses or internal growths (i.e.: stomach ulcer). They take blood count, cholesterol, and blood sugar as well. They even check for lead poisoning, and to figure out your blood type.

Life Science - Biology
How does the strong scent of a flower benefit a plant?
~The strong scent of a flower benefits a plant by getting bees and other bugs into it. Bees like the scent of a Venus Fly Trap. The scent is sweet to them. The scent attracts the bees and the Venus Fly Trap eats the bee. It also benefits a flower because the flower’s pollen attaches to the insect, and the pollen falls of the bee and reproduces that plant.

Physical Science - Technology
Does a computer technology play a part in making a video game, and if so, how?
~Computer technology does play a part in video game creation. A video game is made up of electrons. An electron is computer generated. Halo II is a computer-generated game; the people behind the masks are made by a computer. The computer technology software that is used to make a game can be Flash, which is standard for a computer video game (i.e. Roller Coaster Tycoon). There is another type in which a real person is covered in “white balls” which in turn show up on the computer and the movements of the person is recorded on the computer and the software applies it to a video game and dresses the “white balls” with clothing to make it look like a person.

Life Science - Genetics
Why might one person have straight hair and another person have curly hair?
~One person might have curly hair and another have straight hair because of genes. Someone’s mom might have curly hair so that person got that gene from his or her mom. It applies for the person with straight hair.

Life Science - Biology
What do your head and a turtle shell have in common?
~Your head and a turtle’s shell both protect something, they both can break, they both are hard, both have a generally round shape, they get bigger, and there is an inside to both. They can heal; they both have plates held together by something.

Life Science - Biology
Why is it possible for different kinds of plants to grow in the same yard, field, or lot?
~It is possible for different kinds of plants to grow in the same environment because they grow well in that area. Cattails grow well in swamps. Pine Trees do not grow well in swampy areas so they do not try. Cattails do not grow well in the middle of a sunny field so they do not try.

Physical Science - Environmental Science
Lead is a heavy metal that is highly poisonous to humans. How can we prevent lead from entering our body?
~We can prevent lead from entering our body by not eating things we do not know what it is. If there are babies in a very old house, and paint is chipping, clean up the paint. Keep it out of the water supply and dispose of it properly.

Health and the Human Body - Nutrition
Is it possible for you to gain weight if you eat only a salad for lunch every day, and why or why not?
~Is it possible for you to gain weight eating a salad everyday for lunch, because when you eat croutons, they have carbohydrates in them. You would get too many carbohydrates that would make you fat. All of the toppings (tomatoes, dressing, croutons, ect) contain some type of energy (calorie, carbohydrate) that would make you fat if you do not burn it. If you ate just lettuce you could gain weight because of breakfast and dinner, unless you ate a salad then.

Live Science - Biology
A python may measure more that 32 feet. How would this length benefit and hinder the python?
~A 32-foot python would benefit from its length because it would have room for its food. If a snake swallows something whole, it will need a lot of room to fit it in their stomach. This 32 foot python would hinder from it is length because it takes more work to flee from a predator. If it heads inside a hole, it is not safe until all 32 feet are in the hole.

Life Science - Psychology
How can you tell if someone can be hypnotized?
~You can tell if someone can be hypnotized if they have a characteristic postural way. They sway back and forth with their eyes closed.

Earth Science - Geology
Why are spectacular canyons found in the western United States, but not in other areas of the country?
~This is because there wasn’t much development when they were forming back then, so many rivers that ran through without disruption from cities or towns. The flowing rivers over time created the canyons.

Physical Science - Physics
How are a nutcracker, a seesaw, and a rake alike?
~O nutcracker, a seesaw, and a rake are alike because they all are simple machines. They all have a fulcrum, and they are a lever.

Earth Science - Environmental
Estimate how much water you use in a day. (Remember that farmers use water to raise the plants and animals.)
~The average American uses, 2,000 gallons of water a day.

Physical Science - Technology
Why is there a black barcode on some of the packages you buy?
~There is a black barcode on some of the packages you buy so the computer scanner can read it, so it knows what you are buying and how much it costs. The computer can decipher the code. It uses infrared laser beams to read the code. The reason stores use it is for inventory counts. The computer can read the thickness, the thinness, and how close the bars are together.

Physical Science - Chemistry
How do salts such as table salt, keep wet roads from freezing in cold weather?
~Salt keeps the wet roads from freezing in cold weather because there is a chemical in the salt that when water and the salt come in contact the water bonds with the chemical and not itself (which would have caused it to freeze).

Health and the Human Body - Nutrition
What are the best foods to eat before a test or an exam?
~The best food to eat before a test or an exam would be protein. Protein helps you:
Stay alert and awake
Think
Move
Be happy
You should eat a carbohydrate diet before you go to bed such as spaghetti. Carbohydrates help you sleep. Then eat a high protein breakfast. Protein keeps your mind clear. So does caffeine.

Health and the Human Body - Disease
Why do you think some elderly people experience the loss of memory?
~As you get older your body wears out. Their immune system might be getting weaker which makes them more vulnerable to things such as Alzheimer’s Disease. Sometimes in their young ages they could have had an alcohol addiction which damages and kills the brain. Alcohol as many negative effects on your body. ☺But who says we can’t just live a little?☺
