He is a constant companion, a supreme example of true love in action. He is a verb. He desires to be close to you, lying contentedly at your feet upon a hard, chilly floor while you rest comfortably on cosy, pliable cushions. He does not vocalise his bliss with a purr nor a squeak but barks in sheer delight at the sight of you, slashing his tail side to side to express his pleasure. This one, though sometimes he does wrong, is a lovely creature, pure of heart and longing only to do whatever pleases you. His deep gazes will thaw the iciest soul. His love for you is eternal. Even if you mistreat him or leave him for days with no explanation, he will greet you with wild enthusiasm and kiss you repeatedly. If given the opportunity, he will gladly and willingly lay aside his life to save yours. He is fiercely devoted.  It is not without reason that he is called “man’s best friend”.
