This was the first song I ever wrote at age 15, in E minor. I still like it after all these years.

The Enchantment

Away, away there’s a wild wooded mountain;
She stands guarded by enchantment and fear.
Upon her breast a young girl lies sleeping;
She dreams of you and calls out your name.
Won’t you go and save the princess?
She waits there on top of that hill.
Wake her from that bewitching slumber;
You can save her if you will.

So you mounted your fastest rider:
A steed of worth like silver and gold.
You sped like fire through those cruel mountain passes
To your true love and her hand to hold.
Past the guard of magic enchantment
There’s no greeting for an unwelcome guest;
Through the hill’s forests of darkness
You found your heart on her breast.

You broke her sleep with a kiss full of passion,
Mounted your horse and you both fled away:
Far from that prison of darkness and evil,
Far away to a place you call home.
Go back and bury that mountain,
Her heart is beating no more,
Her magic is broken forever:
Tears won’t help anymore.

Away, away there’s a wild wooded mountain.
Away, away there’s a wild wooded mountain.
