The next morning was a dark and clouded one. Dreary looking coal colored clouds loomed in the grim sky. We had already sensed the storm and knew the rains would come. We were just waiting for them to arrive. Then the airs cooled quickly and slight rains fell lightly from the sky. It got a little harder, but stayed under the heavy range.
It was around eleven A.M. and it started to thunder. Then minutes later, the flickering of lightning followed, some parts in unison. We pretty much stayed in the den most the day. That was becoming more and more of an issue as each moment passed. I really needed to tell the others about last night and Bruce, but I couldn’t with him around.
Finally there was a break with a chance to talk when he went to the river to get a drink. I pulled everyone together to tell them. I told them exactly what I heard and saw then. All details explained. It only took about five minutes, so luckily he hadn’t returned yet; we still had a few moments.
“I don’t really know what that all means either.” Spirit was the first to say. All but Nikita and Oakami agreed. “You guys must be real idiots. Its so obvious he is going to catch something big and he is being cautious about the whole situation. I mean really.” Oakami said. Nikita stood silent. “But what Oakami?” Topaz asked.  “I don’t know!” he yelled, “Why don’t you ask him yourself instead of me?” He was angry by then. Topaz’s lips started to quiver as if she was going to cry. He shouldn’t have yelled at her like that.
Nikita stood back with a lowered head in silence. I was the only one to notice her like that while the rest of them argued. “Maybe its nothing.” I said to calm the situation. We all knew I was wrong, even I knew it, but the matter really was: is this good, bad, or neutral? What was he doing?
We argued a little more on it, getting nowhere. We quickly shut up when he returned. “Hey guys. What’d I miss?” he asked. “Nothing Bruce.” Rikku said. “Oh, I just heard you guys talking about something is all.” “Oakami and Sakura were just arguing again.” Zorah chimed in quickly. “ You two seriously need to chill man. You two are at it all the time, not good ya know.” he lectured. I nodded to make it seem like I was listening. It was only a cover up for what we had really been speaking of and luckily he believed it.
Night was drawing near once more and we started to relax in our den. Although all of us but Bruce had tense cores. We all itched to ask what he was going to do.  But we held it in; it was too risky to ask. Eventually it got the best of us and drained us of our energy. We all fell asleep where we fell in the cool night mist left from the rain.
We all woke the next morning a little later than usual. It was way past dawn. We all woke up and hunted for our breakfast as wolves. Unfortunately all we could catch for the day were mice and small brown rabbits.
Bruce was especially nice to us that day. He even played with Topaz. She enjoyed that. She was much younger than us and seemed to never be able to have enough fun and play time. At one time, all of us joined in for a game of tag. A sport of pure fun.
Skepticism settled for a moment. We all sat and rested in the mid day sunlight to warm our fur. It was always hottest then, but it was a particularly cool day still.
We all put our heads up and our ears out when Bruce’s pocket started ringing. He grabbed it out of his packet very quickly and answered. “Hello? Yeah. Yeah, now. Do it now. No, ok. That’s an order buddy!” he yelled, and then hung up.
I used that flaw to my advantage. “Bruce, I thought your phone wouldn’t work.” I slyly said. “Well, um…it must be the um…positioning! It must be this spot it works from.” he said. We all innocently pretended to believe it. We all knew he was lying to us, but why? Was he hiding something?
“Well guys, I have bad news.” he said to interrupt our thought cycle, “they cant get me for two more days.” he said, then breathed a heavy, yet obviously fake, sigh. “Is it still cool to be with you guys still then?” he asked. It was still hard to say no. He had been courteous and kind. He also seemed too much of a city guy and technologically addicted to survive out there alone.
“Alright, just a little while longer would be ok.” Spirit said. Oakami rolled his eyes at our kind offer. Nikita stood in the back silent again. Her silence started to bother me, and I think it bothered Shadow as well. I looked upon his expression. He stood in back near Nikita, head down as she was doing.
Now why was he doing it too? I thought Nikita may just have been doing it because she was mad that Bruce was staying with us, but now Shadow was doing it too! And he liked Bruce! Something was up, and they were the only ones who could sense it so far. I knew I had to check it out. Although I had a strange feeling Spirit had sensed it too and kept them away from the rest of us.
“Cool then,” Rikku said, “were going to split up and head off to do whatever. We’ll meet you back at the den later ok?” “Alright, cool dudes. See ya then!” he said, and then walked off.
They all turned to each other and started to figure out what they wanted to do and where they wanted to go to play. They all talked about it in their tight circle. No one even realized I slipped away and off secretly. I needed to find some things out, and the answers walked away with Bruce. I was in my wolf form, and was heading in the direction he had gone.
