Well,” the younger girl started, a few years younger than me, “this is your mother and I’m your sister.” I just stared at them and then gave my rebuttal. “Yeah right! You’re not dead, so you can’t be my mother. And you can’t be my sister because I never had one!” “I didn’t think you would understand. Why don’t you sit on the throne and I’ll explain it all to you.” she said. So I sat down and opened my mind real wide for what she was about to feed my head.
“When you were born your dad and I were so happy to have a complete family then. We lived in the cabin the villagers had help build for us and once a month we were able to have a friend fly supplies in for us from the city. I originally came from Ireland and your dad of course was a Wulfin tribe Indian warrior, one of the best.”
She paused, and then continued, “When you were almost one year old, that’s when it happened. The Drago tribe had bothered us for years about our secrets of the forest and they grew tired of our uncooperative nature to them. The only ways to know the secrets were to have them bestowed by one of the highest honors an Indian can get, and we were up on the list for our piece of mind as were weren’t both the same culture.”
“They surprised attacked us one day when we were alone. They threatened us, but we never told them what they wanted. We pleaded with the leader and told him it would be bad to kill us because only we knew the secrets that were there. He felt bad for us and decided to make us an offer on it.” she said.
She paused briefly again, and then started to finish. “They gave us three choices: one, we could just die, they would kill us on the spot. Two, we told him the secrets and he would have left us alone after that. Of three, we could come to them and live in their tribe freely. But there was a catch on the third one. We had to pretend to be killed by them and take new identity.”
“So I’m guessing you chose option number three then?” I said. “Yes, we did, and the chief of the Wulfin snatched you away and sent you to the city though so you wouldn’t have to live like this. But we regret it now. We basically chose life over you, and abandoned you when you were young. We knew you would be taken away if we chose that.”
“We watched a horse rider strap you to his back, mount his horse, and ride off to the city with you. He left you on the random doorstep. He pinned a note of why you were there and knocked. He mounted his horse again and rode back off to the forest. That was the last time we saw you. We felt we still needed a child to be happy though, a complete family.” she said.
“So is that where she came from?” I asked pointing to my supposed sister. “Yes, she was born a few years later after you were gone on the same day as well. But ironically she never knew her father either.” she said. “What happened to my dad?” I asked. “Well, he went out hunting and a pack of wolves and Wulfin ambushed them and he was caught in it. He was killed by accident. They saw the movement and thought that they were deer. Only a few survived.”
She sighed, and then continued. “The survivors went back and told the chief of what had happened. That’s the day the feud between the tribes really started, and sadly, it hasn’t ended since. I grieved for a while, and then tried to get over it. I’ve been living here ever since.”
She smiled, then finished. “Then I heard that you had came to the forest and found the cabin. I was delighted to here it and just couldn’t wait to see you again. But I cried remembering my agreement with the chef said I could never see you again. But it seems he is gone and won’t bother us for the little while. But now you’re here and it’s too late. Your back to stay I hope and you’ve had a chance to see it all. Now you know the real story, the entire story for good.”
I took a few moments to think about it. It was a lot to take in. I trusted her some, but not completely. Although it was the most believable story I’ve heard so far. “Wow.” that was the best I could come up with. “Yes.” she said, and then I chimed in once more. “Why don’t we just go home and rest? It has been a long enough day.” We agreed and started to walk back to our cabin.
I wasn’t worried about Midnight and Sheilla, they were big pups and they could handle themselves. I knew that they would come back eventually. I was sure if that much.
We didn’t say much after we got home. I just went and made us something to eat. It was a simple dinner though. I was too exhausted to do much more. We sat down in what seemed my shrinking cabin and ate. About halfway through though the wolves returned. Sheilla entered with a piece of deerskin cloth in her mouth. Then Midnight came in and it was worse what was in his mouth. He had blood around his mouth and a little more on his fur.
I wasn’t sure if I had killed him or not, but I was guaranteed some safety from it now. They sat down in the corner and bathed it off of him. I knew they definitely caught up to him. That was the most surprising day I had ever had. It wasn’t over yet though. It was only about six thirty PM. I still had time to chill and catch up with my mom and sister. From what you’ve seen, it looks like my life is a drama from TV! But of course, it wasn’t over yet. There is more to the story. Just wait and see. It never ends this easily.
