I arose the next morning to the bright, warm, joyful sunshine peeking through my window. I had a new sense of reality and I suppose better common sense. “It was all just a dream, it must have been. Thank God!” I said. I pushed the curtains open and lifted the window up and another bat came flying in through it!
I turned around and grabbed the gun off my nightstand and then turned back around. I fired at the bat and only nipped its wings. I took another shot, this time it hit right in the chest. Two more bullets gone, and another explosion of green ooze. The corpse of it just lie on the wooden floor.
Then there was another r knock on the door. I figured I shouldn’t answer it. Whatever it was that was knocking, was banging now and just wouldn’t stop. Eventually I couldn’t stand it, so I grabbed my handgun and slowly headed to the door, with the banging growing louder with every footstep I took.
As I went to answer it, I thought: Am I really going to answer it. Then I thought: What if it’s good? What if it’s bad? What if it’s a zombie? What if it’s help? I stopped for a moment, “I have to answer it. I just really hope its help.” I said to myself, and then kept on going. I stopped again, thinking I saw something out the window. Nothing was there, nothing at all. I kept going, still holding the gun at my side like it was my only way of survival.
I reached the door and stopped. I reached for the doorknob. I closed my eyes, turned my head, aimed the gun, and opened that white door. I was really nervous. “Who’s there?” I said. “Don’t shoot!” a frightened man said. I opened my eyes. It was just the mailman with a package and a letter.
“I’m so sorry! I’m just being a little cautious, since all the reports of zombies and how the virus was.....” He interrupted before I could finish. “Zombies!” he said starting to laugh, “That’s ridiculous! Do you really expect me believe that fib? Oh! The zombies are running around and there gonna get met me! You’re a moron!” He said, rudely I might add. I nodded. He looked at me, noticing the frightened expression on my face. I raised my gun, aimed, and fired.
It nipped his right shoulder. But otherwise he was able to duck in time. I charged him and pushed him out of the way. I shot behind him and he turned around to see what I had done. All he saw was a foul smelling rotting person fall to the ground with a hole in his head. “Now do you believe me!” I yelled at him. That wasn’t like me to yell at a mailman, or shoot a zombie through the head like that.
The first zombie was dead, but that was the least of my worries. Another one came staggering towards me slowly. I aimed and pulled the trigger, but all I heard was a click. I was out of bullets, and had no time to reload. I remembered back to the newscast and about the mutations. I looked down at my feet, and sure enough, there was another small gun. “Perfect!” I said. I was very relieved.
It was the same kind of gun I had used in a virtual training program for the presidential fitness test at school one year. I picked up the sticky, slimy gun and pulled the trigger on that one. The ooze had jammed it! So I hit it on a rock to try to unclog it. It fired on the hit and, luckily, hit the putrid smelling creature. It was a small gunfight, because some how he had one too. I was filled with terror again, the fear of dying. Finally he collapsed and three grenades fell out of his stomach. I picked one up and waited. No more came around.
I sighed and turned around to a shock. I looked down and gasped, the mailman was dead! Full of bullet holes and bleeding. Another victim of the evil part of our world. I threw the second grenade into an open area and rolled his body into it. It was more in honor than anything.
I started walking down the street, heading anywhere. It wasn’t safe where I was. I needed to find somewhere else to hide. A ways down the road, I came to a small abandoned building. I went in so I wouldn’t be so exposed outside. The only things inside were some rats and a couple of drugged goblins.
There were three doors though. They all had labels on them. One was labeled “Artillery”, another was labeled “Lab”, and the last one, “Secret”. I went into the door labeled “Secret” first, being a little curious. The room was stuffed with stacks and stacks of these little, metal, square boxes. There was a folder on top of a crate that had the words “Top Secret” stamped in red on it. I grabbed it and flipped it open. It was cool, the file read:

“SPACE box. Has unlimited amount of space and can hold anything. It alters the laws of physics to make the room. Used to carry personal artillery in the military secretly. Not to be shared with the public, may cause rioting and protesting.

So I took three of them, and put them in my pocket. They were so small that they fit pretty easily. Now, I know stealing is wrong, but no one was in town, not even the police. I didn’t think anyone would care, especially if they didn’t know. Then I left the room and went to the next door.
I next went into the room labeled “artillery”. It was filled with every weapon in the whole entire world. There were even some that were not known to anyone but the army! My jaw dropped when I entered that room. I had never seen even half of them! I stayed in there for a while, collecting all the weapons I could. I was smart about it and put all of them into the SPACE box. They were right, it did have unlimited space inside, it was cool. I was glad when I found an adapter to my gun that made it hold five more clips of bullets than it originally did. I knew that would help allot later. I took all I could, then left he room.
I finally came to the last room labeled “Lab”. I didn’t know what was in there, but I was gonna find out. I pulled the handle and the door creaked as I opened it. The first thing I saw when I went into the room was the man with golden eyes. He was sewing up someone he had just done surgery on and was just about to add the virus. He slowly tipped the vial labeled “military virus” in his hand, and that’s when I yelled, “So you’re the one who stole the virus!” He turned around and saw me.
He looked surprised to see a human in that desolate town. “You! How did you get in here! What about the package? It was full of the virus, didn’t you open it? I thought I turned you into a zombie!” He said. He paused for a brief moment, sighed, then smiled evilly. “O-well, no matter, just a tiny flaw, I’ll just have to kill you now..... ATTACK!” he yelled, and then threw down a smoke bomb. The room quickly filled with white smoke, while he escaped out of somewhere.
I may not have been able to see, but I could sure hear. I could hear a supersonic piercing shriek. The smoke was clearing and I could see a pair of red eyes glowing in the room. The air was clear then and I could see what made the ear-paining noise. It was a mutated human that had bat wings and huge fangs over lapping its mouth.
The ferocious creature swooped down from the ceiling and tried to grab me. I ducked, avoiding its talons. It flew back up to the ceiling and stayed there. I took out a grenade and threw it at him. He merely smacked it away and growled. Then I tried to shoot him, but he swooped down and scratched my arm as he passed. I dropped my gun and knew I was in trouble. He flew back to the ceiling and stared at me in anger. I took out a third grenade and threw it at him again. He opened his mouth to shriek, but accidentally swallowed the ticking grenade.
I tried to run for the door, but he swooped down and was close behind. He tried to dive down and grab me, but he missed and rose higher instead. I ran out the door and shut it behind me. I saw a pipe leaning next to the door against the wall and I took it to jam it through the door handle. The bat thing came closer as he was going to ram the door. But before he could even get that far, he stopped, hiccupped twice, and then blew up from the grenade.
I didn’t worry about getting more grenades, but I did go back in to see what the bat had dropped. I found a big drill, so I took it with me. I left the room and in the main room about ten zombies rose from the floor, moaning painfully. I used the drill to eliminate them all, either through the heads or torsos, dodging their flailing arms. I quickly ran out of the building, just in case there were any more unexpected creatures in there. I wouldn’t risk it that way. I closed the door and turned around to lean on it.
There, no more than thirty feet away from me was the man with the golden eyes, standing there with his arms crossed and an evil look on his pale face. Our eyes met and locked together. He then smiled and snapped his fingers. He crossed him arms again and just stood there with that malicious grin on his face. The ground started to shake and I wasn’t sure if that was good or bad.  Then, I saw.…it.
It came walking out from behind the side of the building and stood behind him. He was a nasty little zombie. He was a huge muscular monster! He looked unstoppable and also like others had tried, because he had broken glass, knives, swords, lengths of pipe and bullet wounds sticking out through out his body.
I looked the man in the eyes and could tell he thought it would be that easy to be rid of me. Then I grinned back. He stepped aside and let the creature step though directly to me. The brute walked over and slammed his fist down. I tucked and rolled out of the way and came up with my gun and fired at his chest. “It won’t be that easy to stop me dude.” I said as I looked at him. “Me neither!” He yelled at me, and then ran to a ladder from a helicopter behind him.
He grabbed a lower rung of the ladder and waved goodbye at me. I shot at him and the helicopter, but it didn’t seem to work and he just laughed as he happened to escape.
I growled and then heard a roar from beside me. “Oh, I forgot about you big guy. I backed away and looked at him. He roared and charged at me with great rage and fury. I simply stepped aside and he rammed into the wall that was behind me. He stumbled back; seeming to be dizzy, then fell backwards. He hit the ground hard and struggled to try and get back up. I knew I had to think of what to do really fast.
So I bravely ran over to him while he was on the ground and grabbed the handle of the broken tipped sword. I yanked at it and yanked at it till it was loose enough to slide out. It slid out slowly and made a gross suction noise as it did. He was angered and slapped my legs out from under me with his massive hand. I was on the ground for a brief moment, and then I got back up. I lifted the sword in my hands and dropped it on his arm, his hand split off from his wrist. I had hoped it would die, but I was wrong.
He stood back up and charged at me again. I backed up until I hit a brick wall. I was trapped. The SPACE box really came in handy, as I took it out and took a small land mine out and set it in front of me. I stepped aside and watched him as he ran into the wall once more and stumbled back and fell again. But this time, he landed on the land mine.
The mine exploded and took the wall of the building out with it. He was covered by the bricks and dust covered the ally way. When it cleared, he was still standing there, but most of his skin was missing and you could see the muscles. He was furious by then. He charged again and this time was able to slam me to the wall. I fell down in pain. He slapped me aside with one mighty blow and the vibrations took the rest the building down with it. It collapsed on to him and killed him for good this time. That was finally over.
Unfortunately, when the building collapsed, it took the lab, all the weapons in the artillery and all the SPACE boxes with it. All of them were gone for good, but I still had a few of them.
After the smoke of the bricks disappeared, an old, beat up, red-painted box appeared in the ally way. Of course out of curiosity, I went over and opened it with the rusty hinges. I fell back as bats poured out of the box and just ambushed me. I shot them all down like little birds on the hunting grounds.
More problems happened to crawl out of the box. Basically at least a dozen zombies climbed there way out of the box. They all headed for me, since I was the only human around. That’s when I heard them, other humans were there with me, there was about ten of them! They were all frightened in the corner of the two building. They were pleading for help and screaming, “kill them please, help, hurry!”
I turned around and started to go to them, but before I could get there, one of the zombies picked up a gun and shot at them. They fired mercilessly. I ducked and the bullets sped over my head and stuck all those helpless humans down. They had tried to run, but they couldn’t escape the bullets.  They all hit the ground, just bleeding. It was a gruesome sight, and wouldn’t be the last one I would ever see.
I stared blankly at the zombies, shocked and stunned what had just happened. Then I felt the rage come out like I had never felt before. Even though I had never met those people I still felt they deserved to live and not be slaughtered in a time of crisis. I was angry! I opened fire back on them and struck them down as they had done to the humans. They all died again and that was all that happened with them.
I waited a moment, and then more zombie-type creatures crawled out of the box. What and evil filled box it was. These creatures weren’t totally human though. After I got a good look at them I realized they were half human..... And half squid. They had the legs and torsos of a human, but six tentacles and a squid’s head. That was seriously twisted. I didn’t know what to do. Then they started to jump up and down. It shook the ground like a mild earthquake. I tried to stay on my feet, but it didn’t work so well. They came closer and closer with every jump, it wasn’t good.
I just used a shotgun straight out of the SPACE box. I shot them quickly where their chest was supposed to be. It pierced though them and must have hit something because they instantly died. It was a smaller problem than it seemed. I was glad for that one.
I waited and it was very quit. I was suspicious about it. Then one last thing came out of that box. It was an unmutated zombie. It seemed he was a janitor when he was alive. He slowly came my way and didn’t seem to be a threat to me at all. I simply turned my head and fired the gun at him, sick of having to use the guns and weaponry. He fell to the ground and just dissolved to nothing.
I waited for the last time, it was quiet once more. Then I took out a grenade, dramatically bit off the ring and tossed it into the box. I ducked down and covered my neck with my hands. The box exploded, sending little wood pieces everywhere and spreading paint chips with it too. That was over with the box and relief flooded over me.
I walked over to where the box had been and looked. There was just a deep hole there that seemed to maybe go to the center of the earth or the hell dimension. It was a scary sight to see that bottomless pit right there in an ally way. I slowly backed away and slumped down in the corner. I started to cry a little, just over pretty much everything. I cried until I fell asleep, without a thought left in my head. I was peaceful as could be. All my worries disappeared for a single night.
