pu po—po eh-ya,
pu po—po eh-ya
She di'na wan' no-one
To know she was a queen.
And so she hid herself
Beneath a dress of green.
Her dress, it was so long,
It went down to her toes.
The neck, it was so tall,
It covered up her nose.
An' when she walked the streets
Within her dress of green,
The people, they all laughed.
They thought she was no queen.
Her dress, it was so long,
It went down to her toes.
The neck, it was so tall,
It covered up her nose.
The queen began to cry
And shuffled down the streets,
A-lookin' for someone
Who would not think her weak.
Her dress, it was so long,
It went down to her toes.
The neck, it was so tall,
It covered up her nose.
Then finally she found
A man she did not know
Who smil'd at her so kind
And laughed not at her, no.
Her dress, it was so long,
It went down to her toes.
The neck, it was so tall,
It covered up her nose.
She fell in love with him,
And he in love with her,
And married they right then,
For they, none could deter.
Her dress, it was so long,
It went down to her toes.
The neck, it was so tall,
It covered up her nose.
Then she return'd to home
To take her staff and crown
And king did he become.
Their reign, it was renown'd.
Her dress, it was so long,
It went down to her toes.
The neck, it was so tall,
It covered up her nose.
She wore no more that dress.
Of coarse green cloth was made
That dress to hide a queen
Within her wardrobe stay'd.
The dress that was so long
It went down to her toes,
With neck that was so tall
It covered up her nose.
