The swing rocked slowly back and forth as she looked up at the sky. Today was her twenty-fifth birthday, but no one was around to see it. Her friends had all left her, her parents were never home when she tried to call them, all she could do was sit on the swing and stare up at the sky.
There had to be something more, some way to get away from everything. When the thought crossed her mind, she caught a glimpse of a few birds flying overhead. They weren't anything special, just a few dirty, fat birds that ate off of what humans felt they didn't need. Nonetheless, they were flying. They didn't have jobs to go to, or birthdays, or money or cars that needed repairs, or anything that made their life as complicated as hers.
Her legs swung harder under the swing, causing the rusting chains to creek and rattle as their movement became faster. The sun was so blindingly bright, but she still continued to look up. She wanted to fly, she wanted to get away from everything. She had tried it before, but moving away from home just made things worse.
The swing continued to gain speed, pushing her higher and higher into the air. She hadn't noticed, however, her mind was now on past birthdays and holidays that she had once spent with her family. They had never been happy, or if they were, it was a fake happines, like a smile painted on a picture. She would be happy being with the birds, they had no holidays.
Birds flew over again, and she turned to look. They sky was so blue and there were almost no clouds about. Today would be a great day to sprout wings. She wanted to, so she lept from those great heights.
For a brief second, she was flying, but because she had jumped off at a strange angle, she landed the same way, breaking her neck, killing her instantly.
