Soreth had possibly cared for her since he had met her... now she wished she had known. He shouldn't have had to deal with that demon... and now there was an explination needed.
As she walked slowly towards that tree, where she and Soreth always met, a cold chill ran over the low slopping hills. It cause her to turn and look, almost expecting someone to be there.
She remebered meeting him, though she was not supposed to be consorting with demons. It wasn't that she had known, she hadn't know anything about him, only that he was standing waiting a few feet away from where Soreth and Irafel would meet her... a few years in the future.
He stood there so cooly, almost as if he belonged there. Had it not been for his very pale skin... she would have almost thought he was an angel. He cared little for anything around him, but when Basa walked toward him, he did something she never had expected.
As she moved closer to him, his cool composure turned to astonishment as his eyes fell on her. For the first time, someone saw her and though she was everything... or that was what he would tell her later about their first meeting, whether it was true or not.
"Who are you?" she had said, sounding as she felt: amazed. "Demon's aren't alowed on any of the Sol's. How did you get here?"
He never did answer her question. The demon simply smiled at Basa, his eyes still wide with amazment. "You're beautiful," he told her so blantently, "even if your hiding in that angel skin." He laughed slightly. "But you haven't changed all that much."
His name was Teven, and he was a forest demon. From that point on, Basa saw a lot of Teven, and he told her many things that she found very hard to believe, but believed them nonetheless. To Teven, Basa was his missing lover, who had been killed by angels and then, apparently her soul was turned into an angel, just like Soreth. He told her so many things and she followed it all, because he was the only man she knew that cared more about her than any of the other angels.
They sat under that tree many times. Sometimes, Basa would stay there all day if he didn't show up. Her life revoled around him and his stories... the demon knew that.
"Why don't I remember any of this?" Basa would ask him. "I want to share everything with you, if we did before... but I just can't remember anything."
Teven would get mad at her then. He would stand up and storm about, grumbling curses under his breath until he would turn to her and yell, "Don't you see what they've done to you!?" His cold ice blue eyes would flare as he staired Basa down. "Remember damnit!"
"Basa?"
The fire angel's eyes shot up from the ground, and she found herself looking right into the bark of a tree. Quickly, Basa turned away, trying to laugh at herself, though she certainly felt embaressed. Soreth was standing at the tree a few feet back. He smiled so gently at her, and she wondered how she hadn't seen the difference in Teven's.
"I'm sorry," she laughed, running back to meet the other fire angel, her teacher. "I've been out of it all day."
She felt safe and warm when she was with Soreth, now she realized that she had never felt that way around Teven. He was always so cruel if she didn't listen or if she doubted him.
One day, he said that he had found a way to take her with him back to Vorseth... so they could live together always. Basa was happy to be with Teven, but she was too young for a comitment like that. When she told Teven, he blew up in her face.
"Then stop playing games!" he had shouted at her, grabbing her arms tightly in his grasp, which was cold and sharp. "Damn the gods! You should stop this! I'm leaving now, and I'm never coming back!"
How she had begged and pleaded with him to stay with her. She tried and tried again to go along with the idea... but again and again she wasn't ready. By the time things were getting overly rough, Basa had quite a few friends in the first rank angels and they told her to get away. It wasn't until Irafel and Soreth came to teach her that she even attempted to sever ties with Teven. Soreth remembered the first few days he had been with the younger fire angel.
She had been such a mess, looking as though she hadn't slept in days, or even talked to anyone. When she first said hello to Soreth and Irafel, it sounded as though she had just then opened her mouth for the first time in weeks.
Basa bowed deeply to her two new teachers. "Hello," she said in a raspy voice, "it's nice to meet you, my name is Basa."
It had been then that Soreth had fell for Basa. He wanted to keep her safe, to protect her from whatever had caused this. So far, he figured he had done so. He had saved her from Teven's chilling spell, kept the ice demon from killing her, even helped her get through being the only angel to ever give birth... and helped her give her children to Vorsethians. So far, though he had had his slip ups, Basa was safe with him and Teven would never hurt her again. Nonetheless, Teven haunted many of Basa's thoughts, even when she was with Soreth, who she loved very, very much.
The older fire angel took Basa in his arms and held her tightly, that same sweet smile on his face. "Be careful," he told her gently in her ear, "if you do that too much, your likely to hurt yourself."
