Under Consideration

A points system for members who contribute to the community

We are looking at some form of point/reward system for members who help out or are active. Badges will hopefully be rewarded according to points.
*Idea from [Annie], site staff

Real-time Chat

Would be awesome to have some sort of real-time chat where people online could go just to sit down and talk. Much more convenient than comments, and better than having to get somebody's MSN or Yahoo or whatever. Would be nice if you didn't have to enter a name, it just took your name from your profile.

** Implemented by [Veltzeh]: WritersCo chat. You have to enter a name now, but otherwise it's rather convenient.

Nano Badges

Fan Fiction System

Need:
1) To approve fan fiction as a genre on WritersCo (needs to be in the list of genres for adding writings).
  a. Could be that when "fan fiction" is selected from the list of genres, a message displays beneath it saying that it will require approval and authors should check the "fan fiction rules" (to be created) to make sure they comply.
  b. Need a field for author of original characters/story
2) To create an approval system so that new fan fiction items are brought to the attention of staff for approval.
3) To create a fan fiction rules wiki.
4) To create a list of author approvals or disapprovals of fan fiction (started here: Fan Fiction Owner Bans & Guidelines).

Fixing keywords and heading

The "keywords" and "heading" fields on the writing pages (superwiki) are mixed up. The heading apparently ends up not being used at all, and all the keywords go awkwardly to the title of the page! [Hedda] needs to fix this.

2005-04-02 [The Dark lord]: Yep same with me, if there is anything you need doing or any jobs free...im available!

2005-04-02 [-deleted-]: Me too

2005-05-26 [Phoxx]: same for me

2005-06-27 [RiverStar]: I'm working on getting a wiki for the business of writing up and working

2005-11-14 [Stephen]: I fixed a typo. :P

2005-12-18 [Aradon Templar]: Could I suggest an addition to the 'Style' section for writings? I think a 'drabble' option would be nice for people who don't plan on fleshing an idea out to a full story or anything. Sort of just a quick burst of writing they have?

2006-02-27 [Grey Wanderer]: Good idea! But I bet it would be payed more attention to if you put it in WritersCo Ideas

2010-11-22 [Annie]: Great idea using this [Ash]! Putting more stuff here...

2010-11-22 [Ash]: Yep, let's take it over Annie!

2010-11-22 [Ash]: This is the test badge posted on the page, I would make one much larger and shrink it down so it looks cleaner, but this is the general idea.

2010-11-22 [Veltzeh]: About a real-time chat: We had an IRC channel, but no one came there, so I dropped it. I can always recreate it though! It's possible to make a java applet for the channel but I don't know how. It's also possible to use existing web clients to join, though the best option would be to use a real IRC client.
Also, badges should be PNGs using alpha channel transparency at best, GIFs if you must and never JPGs. ;)

2010-11-22 [Ash]: This is just a sample to see what Annie thinks of the colors and style. I'm hoping to create something a little smoother looking.

2010-11-22 [Annie]: I think the content is good and the general idea is right. You might want to change the colors though. Between the shape and the colors it looks a little like a caution sign. I don't know what the colors of caution are in other places, but it seems pretty universal that red and yellow mean warning or caution. I think you've got the right idea though. Maybe the final product could be shiny like the other badges? If new colors don't make it look less like a sign you might try making it round or something...or in the shape of a badge.

2010-11-22 [Annie]: To the real-time chat...oh I didn't realize we had one before. I know we had a shout box on the front page for awhile but that's not quite what I had in mind. In the shout box you had to enter your name yourself, so anyone could use anybody's name, which isn't very secure. Then it was right out in the open on the front page, which isn't very conducive to a chat. We have a button on the top right that says "Chat" but it leads to a wiki-page where you just leave comments. I was thinking something where there was a button to it and it looked like a real chat box.

2010-11-22 [Veltzeh]: Creating IRC channels is as simple as joining them.
You can also join by doing this: Go to http://mibbit.com/ and click the "Launch Mibbit WebChat" link. A little box will appear at about the center of the new page. Click the "Server" link and write irc.esper.net in it. Write #writersco in the channel field, and your name or something in the nick field. Then press "Go", and bam, you're in the channel! you should see me in there too, but I won't reply if I'm sleeping, obviously. ;)

2010-11-22 [Annie]: Ah...but how would members of WC access it easily from WC? I was thinking something embedded in WC itself.

2010-11-22 [Veltzeh]: That's the part I don't know how to do. X) Except hmm, there's that "use Mibbit on your site" thing. Maybe I'll look into that.

2010-11-22 [Annie]: Awesome. ^_^

2010-11-23 [Ash]: I'll see about the badge, I'm not completely attuned with any good art programs, but I will try.

2011-01-06 [Kaimee]: Great to see ppl taking an interest again :D I can have a go with the badges(es) for nano if you like? I work in design so I have plenty of access to the right programs :)

2011-01-21 [Ash]: Please, go make the nano badges, of course, I don't see why we can't just put up the offical Nano badges, they say for use to post up if you win.
