Home Again
It was with a feeling of deepest anguish that Kara jabbed the pin into the cloth, mane of auburn locks flying as she whipped her head around to glare at her brother, sitting on a rock. A mischievous grin lit his boyish, twelve-year-old features. He tossed her another clothespin from the basket at his feet and put the flute to his lips again. A string of weird music floated up and across the meadow. Someone was marching toward them. It was all Kara could do to keep from crying out like a child. Her father was coming up the hill, a badge of courage on the sleeve of his green jacket. Her father had returned from the war, honor to his name and joy to his home!
