Moonlight filters through from the stained-glass windows high on the ceiling, creating a dance of shadows on the white marble floor. An eerie silence lingers upon the room, as if this place is holding its breath, waiting. For what, I do not know.

Suddenly, I see a figure appear near the magnificent wooden doors. The symbols and patterns carved on their surface are complex; one could spend hours and again hours trying to comprehend them.
I squint my eyes, trying to see in the dim light. 'Childlike' and 'graceful' are the first words I would describe that figure with. It emits a strange, soft light while gliding across the room, reducing the distance between us. As it gets closer, I distinguish the clearly feminine features. Then, it stops.

I find myself holding my breath, and slowly, painstakingly release it. She is now only a few feet away from me, moving her lips to words I cannot hear and probably could not understand. Music faintly begins to flow through the hall, gaining strength by the moment - it's as if there were hundreds of flautists hidden somewhere, one joining in after another.
She's dancing to the tunes, now, and I have never seen something so pure, so innocent, so untamed before. Her eyes are closed, and I can sense her passion as she throws herself into the melody.

This is the event I came here especially for, the thing I came to witness - but I feel like an intruder. It's like I have tainted this place by my presence.
I must leave immediately before she notices me.

As I move towards the door I entered from, trying to avoid making the slightest noise, I hear her asking me a question.

"Will you remember what you saw tonight?
Will you understand?"

I freeze on the spot, shaking. Then I slowly let myself relax, and laughing softly exit the hall.

She already knows the answer.
It is, after all, she who has purified me.
