A day in the life of Adamastor.

Prologue:
Before the reign of Gods, there was the reign of Titans. Crono who killed his father and took the place of God of heavens and time was a titanic and all powerful god; his wife was his own sister Reia. They had children, the most important ones being Poseidon, Hades and, the youngest, Zeus. Afraid that his sons would kill him for the throne like he had done his father, he decided to eat them all.
Zeus, however, escaped this fate with the help of Reia and later made Crono vomit his brothers and sisters and killed him defeating his uncles in battle and imprisoning them in the Tartarus. Using the blood of Úrano and the help of Geia, Goddess of the Earth, he created the Giants. Among them were Encélado, Egeu, Centimano and Adamastor. Later came the story of how the Giants sought to climb onto Olimpus and take the throne of Zeus and how Hercules’ amazing heroics saved the day but this is not that tale.
Adamastor fell in love with Thétis (not the titan), daughter of Poseidon, god of the Sea. Due to his extreme foul aspect, Thétis denied him his love and so he waged war on Poseidon’s kingdom’s to take her by force. But alas, he was tricked; Zeus, who meanwhile had won the war against the Giants with Hercules’s help, imprisoned him to a cliff’s summit so he could see Thétis swimming free in the ocean without ever being able to get near her. Heartbroken and sour, he grew ever more evil and violent, crushing anything he could get his hands on. Countless navies and expeditions would get crushed and destroyed on what would soon be called the Cape of Torments…which geographically still stands at the bottom tip of Africa.
Legends tell a tale of how Vasco da Gama, journeying towards India, confronted Adamastor and tricked him into initiating countless sobs and cries as he re-told his dramatic and sad story while the armada gained enough distance not to get caught hence getting away.
But this wasn’t the first time Adamastor had been challenged and defeated…

“ROOOOOAAAR” A great roar echoed through the Cape of Torments, as the great giant opened his eyes and mouth, in a bad mood like always:
“Again, sailors come…why? I have been here for centuries on end, NONE have ever passed so why? Do these mortals possess no means of communication? No means to warn every other parasitic men and child apart of their fragile and decadent society that I, Adamastor, last of the Giants want to be ALONE!” He splashed the water with his anger, creating a temporary whirlwind that would suck all the water back to that little hole his punch made. “This is MY domain, as tiny as it is. I have vowed to curse anyone that would willingly or unwillingly pass by MY domain.”

He waited a few hours, making up time like he used too….sleeping, catching mermaids and eating them, crying now and then…thinking of her beloved Thétis. But finally he could see the armada, unlike the armada who unlikely could see him. He didn’t recognize the flags…some new fool just exploring he gathered. He then was absolved in a feeling of remorse; he missed the challenge…he could still remember the excellent marksmen the Egyptians were; and those Romans! Catapults in their ships and relatively brave, they were a very pleasant nuisance. But he had not seen real boldness since the likes of the Viking people… those would show you the meaning of courage! They would bite their way to his stomach if he swallowed them whole. Grab them and they would bite and kick and yell profanities... they could have lost their legs and still scream definite victory and glory; they’re the only people who never asked their god for help. Yes, Adamastor definitely missed a fight and the unwavering bravery some warriors showed; it was at least entertaining. Anyways, he stood still and got ready to make the same dramatic appearance he always did. He waited a few more hours and finally, when the ships got closer; he opened his arms and stood out his face to look at the newcomers. They all looked at him paralysed by shock and then began screaming:
“ADAMASTOR!!!! IT’S ADAMASTOR!!! WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!” Screaming in a strange language, undoubtedly remnant of the old Latin the Romans and Greek used. He had thought they were English but instead appeared to be Spanish or Portuguese since Italy had its share of adventures. He adapted his all knowing self to the new language and then he knew it was time to bring on the most memorable line of all times:
“WHO DARES DISTURB ME??!” Adamastor questioned in an unrelenting voice. The screaming stopped, everybody shut up except for one person in each boat who still shouted out loud. ‘The captains’ Adamastor thought ‘are they actually thinking of shooting first? Let us change their mind; it has been a while since I’ve heard a mortals’ insane blabber.’
“Who dares plunder into my domain? Who dares an attempt to conquer the sea? Who do you represent oh most ignorant of explorers?”
He noticed the sails turn with the intent of keeping movement and get away; he violently brought his arm down in front of the armada, bringing it all the way down, after-effect being a little tidal wave against the ships. Two went down and the others lost some crew but the captains remained alive and the majority of the vessels still held up…which was in the very least impressive.
Their captain answered:
“We come in the name of Thy King D.João the second!”
Portuguese then; it was just a matter of time after all, till these new age explorers came intruding into his domain, in their quest for new territories.
“Do you realize whom you defy by coming here? Who do you think yourselves to be mortals?” Some screams followed Adamastors’ question but he managed not to smile amused. The answer, though, was surprising.
“We know ourselves Portuguese! Behind this helm there lies a people, a people that wants what is yours. And no matter how extreme is the fear you monster deliver, and my soul fears, know that far greater is the will that drives me here!”
“You want what is mine? You dare defy me?” Adamastor asked, truly insulted. Not even the Vikings showed such arrogance, such straightforward desire to steal from him.
“Tis our King’s wishes and God’s will, that we may conquer this sea thus uniting all the lands. Thy will be done!” The sailor shouted at Adamastor, more savagely that he himself could. Adamastor suddenly found himself disconcerted, angry, mad, furious, enraged, absolutely pissed off; he felt a sudden need for aggression and so challenged these so called Portuguese:

“You take nothing fragile maggot! You take no one! IT IS MINE!” His shout alone shook the sea creating tidal waves; the little tiny sailors fought to hold on as they scatter on and about they vessels oh so busy while Adamastor proceeded to pick up the battleships. He went for the arrogant spokesman ship first. He picked it up to look the little man in the eye while all the others bellowed in terror and fright doing he didn’t know what. He just wanted to find that mortal…and find him he did. He was right on the helm, looking as fiercely as ever.
“Do you not fear me mortal? I am a giant! I could kill Gods if not cursed to this cape.” Adamastor asked, truly intrigued.
“There are no more gods in the land Adamastor. There is only GOD. The time for men has come and the last piece to conquer is our responsibility.”
“You are a FOOL!” Adamastor cried out like the true monster he was, approaching his eyes to the captain.
“NO beast! You are just blind. HIT HIM MEN!” Suddenly, Adamastor watches the captain and all the other sailors lift some strange sticks and then a loud BANG. He didn’t know what it was but they were small and they hurt like hell. Adamastor instinctively let go of the vessel bringing his hands to his face and his stinging eyes.
“MY EYE! MY EYE!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY EYE?!”
Without his sight, Adamastor sought to destroy all the ships before any of them got away. He splashed and he hit and maimed and punched and waved around while his eye healed. The pain was so sudden, and the panic of letting them away so painful that he didn’t even think of using his other eye.
In the end, when he finally could see through his tearful eyes, he noticed that he had ultimately failed. Most of the armada was destroyed but he had been tricked yet again. The Portuguese had turned back…seems as though all they wanted to do was conquer the cape, survive the crossing…beat the great and mighty Adamastor.

Adamastor wasn’t feeling that great and mighty. As he watched the vessels get farer and farer away, followed by the sunset, he felt as bad as ever. In his little and private domain, it was always raining with heavy winds and blizzards and thunder and lighting all over the place. He closed his arms and lowered his head thinking:
“Dear Crono…what a day.” Then he started whimpering in tears and cries, remembering the captains’ words: “The time for men has come…you are blind.” He wondered in quiet and forgetful whispers:
“Am I truly blind? Has some sort of change taken place and I have just outlived it…outcast and forgotten? Am I the last immortal to manifest myself in this realm? Then so be it!” He lifted his head and looked up. “I make my last vow. Using the last of my cosmic power and authority, I hereby link my life to the one who defied me today. I vow that once he is dead, than so shall I perish from this land and for good. May you, whoever you are now up there, accept my bondage and deliver me the end once the time comes…” He laid his head down again in a bow and whispered “I am tired…I am so truly tired.”

Epilogue:
13 years later:

“Captain my Captain…we meet again.” Adamastor greeted as he plunged into the ocean killing the captain, Bartolomeu Dias, and finally ceasing to exist in the mortal realm.
