I’m sitting in a bench, a school bench just outside the door. I’m listening to some music and thinking of unnecessary and all the same things when something in my head aches, telling me to look away from the floor and look to the window.
And so I raise my head and what do I see? I have no idea, but it…she was beautiful. She’s right in my face smiling like saying goodbye, which was weird because I had never seen her before. Her eyes were a mixture of orange, yellow and white. Some pretty colour I don’t know, maybe a new one.
Her hair was white and long, her skin reflected almost all the light around her so I really couldn’t tell how her body looked. Oh, the lips were light blue. I can’t put my finger on it, but something familiar about her made me feel relieved, made me feel happy, safe. I smile back, was not afraid or confused, but grateful and amazed. I didn’t even care about the fact chaos wasn’t spreading along the halls due to her presence, which on the other hand meant I was the only one crazy enough to see her. Hum…crazy, at that point, I felt more “normal” then anyone else. Like if I was seeing everything upside down and downside up but it all seemed clearer and truer. She was as beautiful as life should be, breathing good will and happiness. Suddenly she’s pushed away by some shadow, who makes the charge so fast I don’t even see who or what it is, but not fast enough for me not to be startled. I flash my eyes and lean my head backwards, snapping it. I look to my left side and see a being of dark…darkened black hair covering almost all the body, surrounded by all the white hair of the woman under attacked. They stop moving, I get a feeling the white woman stops the charge by getting a grip on the ground, then throwing the blackened savage against the wall. It hits the lockers supposedly smashing them in pieces but in reality I suppose not, because everyone still seemed to be minding their own business. The beast jumps from the broken lockers against the white beauty, hitting her and pushing her through the door that laid open behind her. I immediately get up, worried about only god knows what. Someone talks to me but I pretend not to hear and reach for the window in front of me. From it, I can see they’ve exited the halls that followed the referred door and were now fighting in a little roof, just next to a whole in the wall. They were already too far for me to distinguish anything but the contrast of colours. Suddenly, the white beauty falls from that roof into the football field, I know she fell because she formed a big crater on the floor. The black beast lands in front of the white beauty that stands up. They lie still, watching each other, measuring each other’s strength perhaps. Somehow, my vision enhances and I can see them up close, from the side. Their hairs cover their right side, so I couldn’t see the beasts face or body, but I could see hers.
- It’s not your time yet! – The beauty says firmly.
- I think it is. – The black beast says, with a female voice, apparently the same but I didn’t trust my ears that much due to everything I could still unconsciously hear around me, the students.
- He’s too young!
- And yet! He’s seen enough, felt enough, lived enough. It’s time for you to leave him.
- He’s too young, he can still do it. I’ve seen it, I know it!
- The good doesn’t always win. That’s his first lesson. Thanks for helping.
The black beast stretches her arm and some kind of scarf extends from her sleeves, a black scarf which surrounds the white beauty. I couldn’t be sure but somehow I knew…I knew she had gone to sleep. Never to be awaken again. The black beast turns to me and I discover it’s not a beast but in fact, it’s a black beauty. The exactly same face, but the skin is darkened and the colour I notice in her eyes, whatever it is, is darker; possibly a cross between red, brown, yellow and black. But this time, there is no smile. But even with no smile… I feel happy, relieved, enthusiastic, and joyful. It reminded me the first time I was in… love. Either it was the real thing or not, it reminded me what love should feel like. The black beauty turns to the hive which breaks letting out an almighty light, worthy of the sun itself. The white beauty emerges from it and only asks:
- How long has it been?
The black beauty looks at me, then back at her:
- A minute…a few seconds maybe.
They both smile at me…I smile back as the two beauties vanish, blending with the sunlight. At the same time, my vision zooms off to the bench where my VERY repetitive friend is warning me the teacher’s already in class. I shake my head and flash my eyes.
- Alright mate thanks. – I say, as I get up, feeling a lot better then I did before. I smile blankly at the window thinking “Good god…everything comes to me in fights.”
- What’s wrong man?
I finally wake up and look at him, laugh and reply:
- You know what? Absolutely nothing.
- So everything’s okay?
- Everything that matters, I guess.
- Ok, you’re going weird and I’m getting in, you coming?
- Obviously.
Why? What did it meant? I’m not sure if it did in fact mean something. I’m not even if sure if it wasn’t a dream. Each one of you will have their own take on that. All I know is…that was the closest thing to an unnatural situation I will ever see. It’s like realistic…imagination taking life by surprise. And to tell you the truth, just that made it the most incredible thing I had ever experienced. The unknown… is truly amazing.
