My Guardian Angel

Just a regular routine for me now; me and my trusty friend go out for a few hours and just walk. Crazy sounding aren’t we? Yeah, I know, but it’s more special than you think. It’s just me in my tank tee and faded blue jeans, always the same thing when I walk, never a different pair or different shirt. If I did the special part of this thing wouldn’t be there. Anyways, he just watches me. He’s like my guardian angel or something. He wouldn’t let anything hurt me and he comforts me when I need it. Well, what do we do on this trip? Well, we walk, but where? Why, in the woods of course, nothing else in the country but trees and animals and plants. So here’s the next big part of it, why? Well people get themselves roused up and they keep their feelings inside and then if they don’t express them they blow up on someone for doing nothing wrong. Me, I just take a walk.

We get together and go down the road a little ways, through the gates and back around the hillsides. I live in a valley, so that means I’m between two hills, and I live to explore every nook and cranny I can find. He’s just like me. He’ll wander on ahead of me checking out the surroundings, probably making sure it’s safe for me. In fact, he’s kind of just like me. I’m a wanderer myself. What’s that? Well I’ve given it my own definition. I say that a wanderer is a person who just roams about everywhere discovering and exploring. He just loves doing that and I think that’s why we get along so well. So anyways, we continue on past the gate and go through the creek, which is what we call a stream or small river in the country. We go back around the hillside a ways and soon reach our special place.

What is it though? Well, in the country you have many different little landscapes and our place happens to be a small waterfall. It’s so lovely there. A huge pine tree grows from the other side of it and I just sit there on the rocks under its shade and he sits there. I talk to him out loud and let go of my problems so I can think up of a solution. He just usually sleeps. Sometimes I join him in slumbering but I always get a walkie-talkie call from my family making sure I’m alright and it wakes me up. So while we’re at our special place, whether its spring or summer, winter or fall, we play together and just snoop out adventures. In the hills we get so many new things to find everyday because it’s like magic: It’s always changing.

Here’s one example. So the waterfall runs into a huge pond that you can actually sit in and it was in the middle of the summer and really hot. So I was in my swim suit and I laid down in it and I felt something move under my foot. It scared me and I jumped out screaming. He was there in an instant to love and comfort me though. I was laughing after that. Sometimes when we’re not looking to walk and just have fun I get out the four-wheeler and we ride around. So a lot of people think I’m weird when they ask me how I’m so calm and I tell them I just go for a nice three hour walk. But I know there’s more to it than just walking. If I know that he’s there by my side for me to talk to, or be with, it’s our friendship and love that makes it worth the long trip.

When we go outside we don’t hurry, we take the time to stop and smell the flowers which may sometimes turn out to not smell that good, but it’s what makes it special. It’s just between me and him and that’s what I love. If something where to happen to either one of us then I would hope that he would know that I loved him like a sibling I’ve never had. So now that we’re at the “tail end” of this diary entry I just want to say that I love my dog. No one could take the place that Bandit has made himself home to in my heart.

For the love of my dog, Bandit, in hopes that we’ll be here to see each other grow old in time.
