scream
cry
insomniac
giggle
laugh
cry
scream

cant go to sleep
or they'll all get me.
bang your head against the wall
gotta stay awake.

sit in the corner
where you can watch they're every move
huddle close and curl up tight
but you gotta stay awake.

rock back and forth
and sing a song or two
humming makes me happy
gotta stay awake.

the clock on the wall is ticking
daddy's lying dead.
my hands are stained but thats okay.
cause i've gotta stay awake.

a car drives up the driveway
mommy's home late, again.
what a pleasant surprise for her
this i cannot miss.

she opens the door to my bedroom
and i smile from the corner, insane.
she screams when she sees daddy
and runs to yell at me.

she shakes with fear and grabs me tight
her words i cannot hear.
only the voices in my head
are both my guidance and my fear.

and now i sit alone.
in a corner once again
but instead of my home bedroom
the padded walls are my friends

and yet again
the voices
they repeat over and over again.
i have to listen to every word
and i gotta stay awake.
