Only hours before, she had told him that she loved him. She confessed to him that though things were difficult, she still wanted to be with him. Yet, he knew something was wrong by the tone in her voice.

"Did you get in any trouble for being seen with me?" He asked softly, fearing her reply.

At first, there was only an uncomfortable silence. Then, with a sigh, she replied.

"My mother was furious. She told me that if she saw you and I together again, she'd get the school involved...And you'd get into trouble."

At hearing these words, his heart thudded heavily against his chest. He felt his cold blood coursing through his veins and his hands clenched tightly to the phone. He inhaled deeply to stifle the tears that were ready to spill down his face.

"I see..." He said quietly, his voicing barely reaching a whisper. "What do we do now, then?"

"I don't know..." She said softly. "Jim, you're an amazing guy...and I don't want to lose you. But I also don't want to see you get into any trouble. My mom thinks that just because you're nineteen, and you have long hair, and a lip piercing, that your some sex craving delinquent or something..."

His body began to tremble at hearing the outlandish accusations against him. He sighed again, and wiped his hair behind his ears.

"And what do you think about that?" He said softly, a warm set of tears dripping from his closing eyes.

"Jim, I know you aren't like that at all. I know you better than that. My mom's just making a big deal about everything because I'm fourteen. It's not fair. My sisters always got to date whoever they wanted, but I'm not allowed to do anything."

He was silent for a moment, wiping the tears from his eyes.

"Well, I'm glad you know I'm not like that. I just wish I could prove it to your mother. I haven't done anything but show you that I care about you. This is so unfair..."

"I have to go now...We'll talk more about it tomorrow at school, okay?" Her voice sounded shaky as she repeated her statement again.

"Alright. Haley, before you go though...I just wanted you to know that I've fallen for you. I've fallen for you harder than I've ever fallen for anyone."

"The feeling goes on both ends. I've never felt this way about anyone. I'll talk to you tomorrow then."

With a slight cry of anguish, he said his farewells to her, and hung up the phone.

He walked over to his bed and sat down, thinking quietly to himself as the pain in his heart grew. I knew I was falling in love with her...but this pain...I think the truth of the matter is...I'm already in love with her.
