Watching Part Two

I just now realized I’ve never told you my name. How rude of me. My name is Artemas Kane. Currently I’m standing in front of my mirror convinced that I’ve got absolutely nothing to wear. I have a date! I have to have something to ware! Patrick was a shy person, so imagine my  astonishment when he asked me on this date. It was a quite question but knocked me off the bench with its power. I’m a guy and he’s asking me out! Not that I have anything against that, but…I’m not exactly gay. Hell, I never even thought I was bi, but I said yes. Something made me say yes. I’m glade I did. I was happy and flattered. He said he would pick me up (How did I get stuck playing the girl in this relationship?) and we would do something. I asked if he had anything planned and honestly said no. Still I don’t know what I would like to do. See a movie? Dinner? Why does this have to be so hard! I let out a frustrated huff. I look at the clock and see it’s almost time. It’s almost 8 O’clock. I look at what I have on and just go with it. It’s dressy and yet casual. It works. I walk into my half living room half kitchen and sit on the couch. I wait and I turn into a shaking pile of nervousness. Finally the doorbell rings to my apartment and I spring to the door. (When did I turn into a hyper school-girl?) Before I open my door I smooth out my shirt. I open my door and smile at Patrick. He’s blushing, something I’m actually becoming fond of. It just looks…dare I say it…cute.

“Well…um…have you thought of anything you want to do?” He asked me with a soft voice.

“No.” I chuckle. “I honestly can’t think of anything to do.” I smile at him again.

He smiles back which I find so comforting. “I kinda thought we could go for ice-cream at that new corner café on Thebin Street? And then maybe go to a movie or a show. There’s his nice play going on and I’m sure I can get tickets. Whatever you want to do I mean I asked you out on the date so I want you to have fun…”

I put a finger up to his rambling lips. “Hey, ice-cream sounds great. We’ll look at the entertainment pamphlets that they have at every little shop. Don’t be so nervous. You don’t have to impress me.” We both blushed.

“Okay.” He blushed deeper as he extended his hand to me. “Let’s go?”

I take his hand in mine. “Let’s go.”

When we step out of the apartment building I’m surprised to see a nice, very nice black mustang waiting for us. He unlocks the doors and, being the perfect gentleman, opens the car door for me. I sit down and I watch him get in next to me in the drivers seat. He smiles shyly at me.

“This car isn’t that special. The way you’re looking at it it’s like I’m rich or something.” He starts the car.

“No I don’t think you’re rich, but it is a nice car. You’re nice too, opening the car door for me like that.” I did it again. I made him blush.

We make it to the café which was named ‘Creamy’s’ and the ice-cream was perfect for a warm night like this. We flip through the little booklets that they offered and decided on one of the shows that Patrick was talking about earlier. They were just small plays that haven’t quite made it yet, but nice to take a date to. The show was over and I don’t know what to do. Should I ask him to take me home? Should we go somewhere else? He fixed the problem though.

“Let’s go for a walk. Do you want to?” We were at the park.

While we walk we start another wonderful conversation. I’m a happy, outgoing person, but I’m usually not this open. Why does he have this effect on me? He stops. I just realized he said something and I did not hear it. I smile and I see that it comforts him.

“Sorry. I spaced out. What was that again?” I blush. Why do I keep doing that?

“I asked if you want to do this again. I…had fun and…Well, only if you want to.” He’s so shy. How can I say no?

“Of course. I had fun too. In fact I had a wonderful time.” I take his hand.

He looks at his watch. “I best be getting you home. You said you have work tomorrow.” I look at my own watch. It was midnight.

We walk back to his car hand in hand. When we get there he again opens my door. “I can get used to this.” I say before I sit in his car.

“You better. My mom taught me to be a gentleman.” He doesn’t blush this time, but instead he winks at me.

The ride home was quite, but comfortable. He held my hand and kept looking at me smiling. When we got to our destination he opened the door to let me out and walked me to my door.

“So I guess this is where we say goodnight?” He blushes this time.

“Yea…” I can’t think of anything to say.

“Um…Well I…Do you kiss on the first date?” The blush gets deeper. And my mind starts race. Should I?

I answer without really thinking. “Why not?” We lean in and our lips barely touch each other, but…It takes my breath away.

We back away from each other and my heart tries to go back to normal.

   “Goodnight.” He whispers.

   “Goodnight Patrick.”
