Chapter one - The meeting

It was a dark and stormy night, and I was all alone. Sighing, I kicked at some stones that were lying at the side of the road. How did I do it? Why was it me that always ended up like this? That's right. The curse. Not spoken of, but everyone knew it. I grumbled, then looked up at the charcoal sky. "Why me?" I shouted. Of course no-one answered me, they never did. They just smiled and twinkled, like they always did, they never spoke but I knew there were looking out for me, even if it didn't feel like they were. I grumbled, and walked again. I let out a small shriek as lightning struck a tree not too far from me. "Great. I'll probably get hit next." I muttered. Shrugging, I continued on my way, my mood darkening with every step I took. Heaven help anyone who decided to cross me now.
"Ah...." I heard from behind. I whirled around.
"WHAT!?!?" I let the words come out as my hands balled into angry fists.
"Hmm...Yes, yes, tell me your name child." A man stood before me. He had long, straight black hair and kind eyes, the kind of eyes you could stare into forever and never get bored.
"My name?" I said, my anger leaving me as I pushed a strand of hair from my face. My name. That label that parents give you to set you apart from the rest. It had been so long. When had I heard it last? In Gai`leore? In Rumstead? That thing that I was running from. The thing that held the key to my past.
"Yes, your name." The man took a small pocket watch from inside his travelling cloak and checked it before looking back at me. "Come, we haven't got all day."
I blinked, trying to remember. Name. My name. What was it? Ah, I remembered now. I remembered hearing it called to my by the woman called my mother. "My name....is Amesis." I said. What an odd name it was. Amesis. Like in the child's bedtime stories that mothers read their children.
"Come Amesis, it is time to leave." The man held his hand out for her to take.
I paused. Should I take it? I wondered. I slowly extened my hand, then joined it with his. "Yes. Time to go." I said softly, as if in a daze.
The man smiled slightly and set off, a small staff helped him to walk, one that I hadn't noticed before. "We are behind schedule, we must hurry."
I only nodded my head. The schedule. My life seemed to revolve around it now-a-days. I sighed lightly as my wet hair suck to my face and neck, making me shiver.
"Hmm..." The man led me along, down street upon street, I wanted to ask him where we were going but I couldn't work up the nerve. "Ah!" The man smiled as we came to what seemed to be a rock, a very large rock at that. "Here we are."
"A...rock?" I said, my eybrow raising. A rock. We walked all this way, just to go to...a rock? It seemed to absurd to me.
"Lesson one. Appearances can be decieving." The man tapped the rock three times with his staff and before me the rock moulded and spun until a small door appeared. "After you my dear."
I edged forward, nervous and unsure. Could I trust him? I looked back at the man, and I decided that I could. I took a deep breath in, and walked inside, stooping to fit through the doorway.
The man soon followed after me, his head lightly brushing against the top of the door. "Amesis, welcome to Kaya."
