The Choice

There she stands in the summer light.
A golden haired beauty
All men’s delight.

Here I stand, at your side.
Staring at her
Worried about my pride.

She walks with such grace.
My envy is deep.
For her, hearts beat at a quicker pace.

I look upon you, fear in my eyes.
Please don’t love her
I’m okay is my lie.

Your gaze is concentrated and strong.
I believe you are falling
I won’t have you for long.

The smile is gone from my face.
Depression sets in
Your thoughts of me leave no existing trace.

Just when I think it’s hopeless to try,
You slip your hand in mine
And I know it is for me that you would die.
