[Inoni]: 62.Voodoo Priestess Nimeesha.Nim's Breaking
Rating: 0.00
Kauna tapped softly on Nimeesha's shoulder. "Nimu?" she said softly. "Ariallia came, and dropped off your results..." She tried not to give away it's contents with her tone of voice, but it was hard to stave off the disappointment
Nim sat very still for quite some time, staring at the parcel resting on her knees. She licked her lips nervously, and then slowly began to tear the top of the package open. She pulled out a small stack of papers. She flipped through them slowly... They were all filled with charts and opinions and tests, all with herself as the subject. Then, on the very last page, her eyes were drawn to a single line of large, centered text.
"No..." She mouthed, unable to speak. A small envelope was glued to the bottom of the page, and she opened it to find the shredded pieces of her papers. Now, it was illegal for her to cast a hex, create a potion... Anything. All she could do was slightly manipulate her element, and watch her Mistress do the casting. She felt tears well up in her eyes, and her shoulders began to shake from her with-held sobs. In one smooth, but flustered, motion, she flung herself off the tree stump, tossed the papers away, and burst into a run.
It's exceedingly hard to run, when you are dressed as Nim was this day. She was all covered in skulls and bones and other dead things, which scratched at her arms as she pumped them rhythmically. Her steps were quick and short, limited by the slim cut of her dress's hem. Her feet, covered only by black ballet-like slippers, began to ache as they ran along the forest floor. She began to stumble as she ran. After a few misguided steps, she completely lost her balance and fell to the ground.
After a few moments of rushed, hopeless sobs, Nim began to rise, but stopped halfway and just sat, too disheartened to stand. Years of training and dreams, shattered by a silly mistake, a tiny slip up. She made a breeze pull her hair away from her face, and she blinked her eyes slowly, trying to clear away the tears. In front of her, there layed a tiny wooden carving of a bird. She blinked again as she noticed it. "A... Birdie?" she whispered, reaching foreward and picking it up. She turned it over and over in her hands.
Crack. The snap of a twig made Nim jerk her head up. Her wide, panicked eyes lit upon a boy who stood in front of her. He looked absolutely bewildered. At first Nim didn't understand why, but then it dawned on her... Somewhere between his hoodie, his torn jeans, his skate shoes, and the wires of an mp3 player's speakers coming from his ears, she realized: He was a modern boy. And she has just broken the biggest law that had ever been placed upon her life.
The boy blinked wildly, and then took a step back. He took two more, slightly quick steps. And then, he turned and started running.
