here there was a sunny spot in the afternoons, here there was speckles from the lace curtain
    that entered the shadows, tore them apart
clinged to the rugged nails
my nails are still broken, fingertips scratch the unpainted windowsill
     fainted, like everything here

this house and me, we walk with feet of stone
remain here and silent
if you sit long enough you can get roots
               connect and stick
                                 grow
