can I say I loved for naught
when I listened to movements and the rustling sheets
        I couldn't hear breathing across the room
         I breathed louder, unevenly
         I am awake

sat silent, often
thought about how would I dare to sit next to you
what tone of voice should I use to say
                  you have beautiful hands
