People always say
“I’ve fallen in love”
As if love
Was something to be fallen into
Like a puddle of mud
Or a kiddy pool on the lawn.
What a strange metaphor
To use for something like love–
And they’re completely, totally
One hundred percent
Right.
I’ve fallen in love
And I can’t get out!
Look at this –
The mess I’ve become!
I’m soaked from head to toe
And I can’t think straight;
I can’t see straight
Because all I want to see
Is you
I want to hold your hand
And stay close by your side
That way, you see,
Should someone chance along
And try to pull me out
Of this mud puddle
This splashing, playing kiddy pool
Called love
I’ll have someone to hold onto
To keep me in place.
Oh, would you look at this mess!
I’ve fallen in love
And I don’t want to get out.
