Electrocution was never pleasant and this time was no exception. Greg Fallon knew this was wrong. He knew it was plainly wrong. He’d never done anything. He’d been watching football that night, not stalking a house. He’d heard a scream, but he wasn’t the one who caused it. He was a caring person, not a murderer. Maybe he should have stayed in his own home and let things happen as they happened. But no, he had to help. He heard a scream and went to help.

“That’s enough, boys. Give him some air to speak.”

A dirty man in his early forties commanded the thrill-loving and easily excited boys surrounding him. Everyone’s faces were glistening almost as much as his form the heat, and a sweat collar was forming down the big mans bulbous gut.

Gangs… packs… Why didn’t they believe that he didn’t know anything? He gasped heavily at the burning air, but it never seemed to fill his lungs.

“I don’t know anything… I saw two woman and a boy lying dead in their livingroom- all shot… But I didn’t see anyone.”

His eyes rolled back in his head as a trigger-happy boy stuck the cord in him again.

“David, cut that out!” The big man boomed angrily. “He has to be able to think straight, darn it!”

It took a while for his head to clear. Eventually the white light swirled into the dark brown of the warehouse and he could vaguely see faces. The voices, even the shouting, barely reached him. All he could think of was his wife and kids at home. His wife smiled at him, her honey curls outlining her pale face and brown eyes…

A blow from the big man tore the image form his mind. Oh yeah, he thought. These people… they were probably the murders. Man, if he ever got away…

“Wake up, shorty and give us a straight answer!”

Anger welled up in him and burst out all at once in a violent storm.

“There were only three home! A mother and two children! They were innocent! They were watching Chicken Little! They were being a family! They were better than ANY of you will EVER be!”

He huffed. He head felt light, but he didn’t care. His head spun but he focused on the man, the man who was too stupid to even hide his own face. He’d get out alright. Then he would have a clear picture to tell the cops.

“Ya’ll are just worthless men! Bullies from gradeschool that never grew up! You’re no one and you’ll have no one… ever.”

His vision darkened. But not before he saw a sad, pathetic look on the man’s face. The kids, confused, looked at him, but for once, the man had a cracked shell. All his tough words had left him. Their spirit was beaten. He didn’t think that any of those kids would have the guts to follow that man again. A small smile crossed Greg’s lips as he blacked out.

“All right, boys. He doesn’t know anything. Take him outside where the cops can find him. Let’s get out of here.”
