English is my home language. I grew up with an active imagination and still look forward to “narrative” essays where I get to enter new worlds. To me, every book is a new world, with new colours, people, even the voices. When I read I can practically hear everything a character is saying. Of course this puts me at a slight disadvantage when my mother has yelled at me for the third time to do something and I don’t do a thing she says, let alone actually hear her.
I only recently started writing poetry. Mostly, unless I have a topic I cannot write. Literal blank. I love noticing things and trying to put what I see into words. Naturally, my English teacher drilled poetic devices like similes and metaphors into me when we worked on Poetry for class. These tend to stay with me as I try to describe what I visualise. I also tend to lean towards a slightly natural element. I have not tried and I don’t think I will write a poem about something with really deep meaning so far. My poems have meanings I know about and that is just about right for me.
