After a few minutes of running, I slowed some and started to walk. The sun was in full form with cloudless terrain and it was too hot to run. I walked on a half-mile or so and made it halfway back to the den when I just suddenly stopped. I was frozen by all my senses. I stood as solid as stone, something hit me. I think I had felt what Spirit had felt. Then, split seconds after, the ground started to quake. It wasn’t very back, very weaken and light tremors, but so much of a noticeable thing. It may have just been an earthquake that happened at a very coincidental moment, but still.
I headed off into a full run home despite the heat of day. I had much worry again. I reached the den and there was a strange thing on how all my brothers and sisters were. They were lined together in human form to make a line of my pack. They just held a firm stance and stared intensely forward.
I ran over to Spirit quickly who was in the middle of the line a little further out from everyone else. “What’s going on?” I asked, “ I felt the tremors and sensed what I think is what you sensed.” “It’s here.” she said without even turning her head. A tear glistened in her eye. She was afraid, I could tell. Although why shouldn’t she have been? We didn’t know what it was. Death could have been arriving for all we knew.
I felt the tremors once more, only slightly more intense than the last set of them. I would tell where it was coming from. Something was coming up over the hills. I heard a bit of a roaring sound but I wants sure if it was really an animal or not. I jumped back into the line and held my position as well. The thing emerged completely over the hill and became whole, but it only looked like a Shadow from the distance apart.
We didn’t know what it was but it was approaching us fast. It only came closer and closer whilst growing larger and larger in that time and it showed no interest in stopping. I came at us directly. It came so near and the rumbles could be felt in the ground still, but slightly through the air as well. It came feet away and did not slow. At last seconds ends, all jumped and tucked and rolled out of its way.
It swerved after it had destroyed and passed through our line. It skidded to a halt with a terrible screech, kicking up clouds of brown dirt into the air.
As alarmed as we were, we all got back up on our feet and formed our defensive line. What was this thing? We all stood our grounds. Is it here to hurt us? It turned around and faced us with a low rumble noise emitting from it. Or could it be friendly and here to help?
Something on it twitched and the rumble noise stopped all together. Then the thing did something very bizarre to me. It split in half! The top side slid over and stepped onto the ground, but the bottom half remained in the same place. I glanced down at the motionless bottom half, and then my eyes shifted back to the top half.
It somehow had the appearance of a human. Black shirt, dirty ripped blue jeans with some sort of chain dangling from the top, and a big black shiny head with a face able to be seen through a little window in it. Then, it reached up and grabbed its head and then started to pull it off slowly! We all watched in horror like a nightmare as he did.
After it was off, we could see he was actually all human! A real head was underneath. We were still and awaited his next move. “Hey dudes!” were his first words to us in a low scroungy voice. “Sorry guys, I couldn’t see you through my helmet. Hey, aren’t you guys a little young to be here? Shouldn’t you like be in school or something?” he said. It sounded like he was confused and asking us more than telling.
Afraid, we still stood there speechless. “Yo, are you guys ok? You act like you’ve never seen another human or a motorcycle before.” he said to us. We still stood there. Finally Spirit was able to speak, “who are you!” she managed to yell out. Then we all waited for his response.
“So you mean you little dudes have never heard of me before?” he asked, stressing the word “me”. “Um, no, I don’t think we have.” Spirit said while taking one step forward. “Your kidding right? Like everyone in the world knows me and my name! I’m famous in dozens of countries!” he said. He was getting very cocky.
“Which world? Because its apparently not this one.” Oakami said. We all laughed at his remark. “Fine then,” he said, a little angry, “I’m Bruce Bilyerd, the most extreme extremist ever to live.” he boasted. “What’s an extremist?” Topaz asked. “Well sweetie,” he said, kneeling a little to be more at her level while smiling, “it’s when tough people do hard, amazing, and dangerous things to show how cool they are.” he finished.
“So then why would you be way out here?” I asked. “Well, I’m working on my newest next extreme thing. I was going to be the first one to jump the river on my bike over there in the middle of the forest. It’ll be awesome!” he said,” I was just scouting for the perfect spot.” “So you found it here?” I asked. “Yeah, I did. Well guys, I gotta go back to the big city to tell my crew about this place and stuff. That way we can get set up and such. We’ll have this place crawling with people to see it, and cameras, and crewmen. See you later then!” he said, then jumped back on his bike, kicked it on, and took off really fast.
He rode for about thirty or forty feet, then he stopped again and got off. He looked at something on the bike and yelled a few words that I cannot repeat. He started to walk back towards us with a scowl on his face, although I was sure it wasn’t at us. “My rides out of gas.” he said as he came into range. We still stood in our line, but the moment wasn’t so tense anymore. It had calmed since our conversation. “So I’m kinda stranded here.” he said.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a um, I think its called a cellular phone. He pushed some buttons on it and then put it up to his left ear. A few moments later, he threw it down and stomped on it with more words I can’t repeat. “Damn! No signal out here bro’s. Looks like I really am stuck here a few days till my crew comes and finds me.” he said.
We all looked at each other for a moment while we thought about it. We nodded together and Spirit spoke again. “Well, if you want to, you could stay with us until you can fid a way home. How long would it be?” she said. “Well, awesome hospitality! It should only be for a few days. Is it cool with all you little dudes?” he asked. We all looked at her and she spoke again. “Yes, it would be fine if you did.” “Awesome! That’d be great guys. Glad your cool with me and stuff. But um, where do you guys live? I mean, there ain’t much out here and stuff.” he said.
“Well, we have a place despite where we are, it’s pretty close to here. Just follow us back and we’ll take you there ok?” I said. “Right! Then lets head off. After you guys, I’ll just trail behind since I don’t know the way and stuff.” he said.
He walked off and he followed close behind just as he said he would. I wasn’t sure if we could trust him or not, I think all of us thought the same on that. But I knew we just couldn’t leave him all alone out there in the wild, as he was not accustomed to that sort of thing. We just had to give him somewhere. After all, it was only a few days. It really couldn’t be that bad. I was pretty sure we could deal wit him for that long. We were raised that way to help others when they need it. “You do what you have to do.” our mother use to say to us, before she left this world and us that fateful day so long ago…..
