It worsened. We didn’t run and we heard a noise then after. Then some one stepped out from the bushes. It was none other than Bruce. He grinned at the site of us. We all swirled into the wolves and readied to lunge. But we didn’t, and it was because of the sound of dozens of guns cocking at once. About fifteen other men stepped out up behind him, all in the black leather suites and holding guns.
“Ah, ah. Down guys. Well isn’t it funny how things turn out sometimes huh?” he said, “Now, why don’t you guys come with me? You can join your sisters in fame and luxuries.” No one spoke, only because of spirits absence then. “No, bring our sisters back!” Oakami exclaimed. “Nope, don’t feel like it.” That was his answer, and he said it with one of his malicious grins. That angered us, especially Shadow.
Despite Bruce’ powerful protection, he suddenly lunged forward with no warning sign, claws out and present with his mouth open. A few shots rang from some of the marksmen’s guns. Shadow fell instantly to the ground and his eye’s shut. Their aim was with flawless precision. Our mouths stood in gape at the site and we all gasp in terror. His team was definitely trained for this.
“Don’t worry kids, he’s fine, they’re only tranquilizers. He’ll wake eventually all good.” Bruce told us, and then he snapped his fingers in the air, looking forward the whole time. Two unarmed men from the line stepped out to shadows limp body. They picked him up and put him in a huge burlap sack. He didn’t have a chance to fight. Then the two men obediently stepped back into their place in the line.
“Anyone else wanna try anything?” Bruce asked innocently, even as guilty as he was. “Good.” he finished after moments of our silence. He still had a trick in his sleeve. We only sensed it even less than a second before. “Fire!” he yelled. A surprise ambush we hadn’t planned of. Although we took off just as quickly anyways.
The shots of all the men at once were deafening. Our ears were not use to such sensations form such sounds. They chased us down. Well, really they only tried, they ultimately fell behind when they had to stop and reload the ammunition from clips on their metal belts.
We ran, lungs in pain from every swallow of air and hearts beating through our ribs. I thought by the trails we followed we were heading back to the caves we originally planned meeting at. Halfway there and we had escaped from the site of them. It was o getting away and to slow only ever so slightly.
I felt weird. I tried to keep running forward, but kept leaning and running to one side or the other. The area ahead seem to twist and swirl. My eyes didn’t obey to keep open and my legs ignored orders to keep moving anymore. I became dizzy and all colors rained together. Then I felt a slight pain in my side get stronger. I turned my head to look and almost fell over. There was something stuck into my hip. It looked like a dart of some sort. It was silver, shiny, and metallic, definitely unnatural.
I couldn’t think straight, but was miraculously able to figure this out. I had been hit with a tranquilizer dart back in the heat of it. It hadn’t affected me till just then. But after my adrenaline settled, the venoms of sleeps kicked in. It hit hard.
Three steps later, I fell, tripping on an outgrown root. My face made first contact, sliding on it to slow from my evident speed. Then my body came down with it, a total paralysis. I slid to a stop with my fur covered in dirt and scrapes and cuts showing on me.
The last thought I had were Bruce’s words, of how these things don’t kill; they only leave a victim unconscious. My eyes finally shut, letting all the lights be unseen. I was out on the unforgiving grounds and fronts of this pointless war that we were losing against the low life humans. I hoped the others noticed my body before they did. I swear I could hear them coming for me.
As it would turn out, I had been hit by a stray dart. I woke some time after. The sun was gone and night had come already. I looked around, my vision still weary and myself still drowsy. Relief flushed over me when I saw what I thought to be dripping rocks and minerals of a cave wall.
I was safe, and comfortably set on a bed of moss with a suroundance of cave rocks and stones. The others sat over way, more leaning on the wall, sitting and sleeping. I sat up and closed my eyes again. I opened them, but it was the same scene. Nothing changed, same situation.
At second glance, we weren’t in the same cave as before. They had gone and taken me to our winter den, where the air was warm and thick with moistures and scents. This place was more secretive where almost no other animal roamed. I knew he wouldn’t find us there. I could rest comfortably on that thought.
I stood up carefully, using the walls as supports. I wandered pointlessly and ended up near the others. I got down next to Rikku after all. I snuggled up into her side for warmth and woke her by accident. “Sakura, your awakened. I’m glad to see it.” she said. I said nothing, but curled up with her to sleep. She smiled and stroked my hair.
I had pains in me, from the accident, but also mental pains along with the agonizing physical ones. I felt like the liquid to make me sleep also jammed my mind to only be able to think of three things: Shadow, Spirit, and Topaz. Lodged in my thoughts, I wondered how they were.
I curled up tighter and shook a little. I was so disturbed by this commotion. What did we do to deserve this? Why had God let this happen? There must have been a reason. We never had done wrong, what reason for this tragedy? Why were they taken! I screamed in my head. Spirit and Shadow would be fine, but poor Topaz….. We had to get them back. A pack is a pack, we couldn’t desert them. It was our job to do it. We just had to get them back, somehow…..
