We talked on the subject a minute and tried to find what to do now. “I’ll hunt,” Oakami said without a second thought to it. “No. It’s too dangerous. We should wait until we know they are gone for sure.” Nikita said. “I said I’m hunting! End of it! I’m alpha male of this pack of our family and right now with Spirit gone I have full charge. What I say goes, got it?” Oakami said with power in his voice.
With a bit of shock, everyone nodded. “Good,” he said, “there’s a reason I’m alpha you know. Bout times you guys figured that out.” As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. I sighed at his taking charge, and he dashed out the cave with no further words.
He was only gone no more than a few minor minutes before he returned triumphantly. He came in not empty pawed. A large deer was with him. He had his teeth firmly clenched on its neck as he dragged it in to us. We all dug in like the animals we have were, no waiting or thank youse to him. When you’re in our condition we were, instinct pretty much tells you to fix it regardless what’s in the way. We finished every last scrap off and licked our paws clean. Although some of us took a bone to chew.
We all sat out in the furthest corner back in the cave after. The ceiling was missing a huge piece of stone and it let light show through despite the depth we were in. We talked and started to wonder what life was doing outside of the cave.
Oakami sent and echoing bark through the cave to quiet us and bring us to his attention for a moment. “Good, now listen up,” he said in a rude undermining tone, “you all know the common issue we face here. What we need to do is this meetings main attachment. Our actions are crucial to our survival. So what we need to do is…” “Get’em,” I interrupted. “No, what I was going to say was…” “We are going to go and get them.” I interrupted again. “Shut up and let me finish! We are going to…” “We are going to go and bring them back home!” I yelled.
“We are not!” he yelled back, “They will somehow escape and find there back!” “Oh really? You think they will be able to just escape from them and somehow travel back here safely alone?” I said. “They will,” he said confidently. ”No,” I said quieter, “they will now alone. As beta of the pack, in Spirits absence, I shall step up and replace her as alpha. Well, at least as acting alpha, so that means you have no power over me Oakami. This ordering us around will stop. What WE say goes now. We may be part wolf with our social rules, but we are indeed human too.”
He could not argue with that, by the pack rules and laws at least. “We are going to try and retrieve them. We owe it to them as family, and one as a protector. I say we even leave tomorrow, early mourn.” I claimed. “What? Tomorrow? But they may still be out there!” Oakami argued.
“Well then,” I said calmly, “that would just make our journey a lot shorter to find them now wouldn’t it?” I said. “You can stay if your scared, but the rest of us are going.” “Well then, we’ll divide up, everyone in the middle of us now.” he said. All the other members did so with out words.
“Now, who ever wants to risk their life and go to maybe save them, step to Sakura’s side. Anyone who wants to play it safe and stay here and wait for them to come back on their own step to me. Go.” Everyone stood silent a moment and looked back and forth between us. Then they all slowly started to move over to my side. Not a single one went to him. They all came and stood behind me. It was settled; we were going to rescue them. Who cared what he said anymore, they were on my side now.
