Soreth looked straight into Basa’s eyes, as if asking her silently to trust him. There was no time to say anything. The demon shot a rush of snow towards the two angels, but by the time it hit, Soreth had pushed Basa forcefully into Alevex’s arms, taking it all on himself.
He couldn’t hear anything as the icy chill rushed into his body. He could barely see Alevex as she rushed Basa up the stairs of the temple just before he turned back to face the demon before him. His whole body was going numb with the cold, he couldn’t feel his entire right side, but he wasn’t about to leave the rest of the fire angels, including Basa, in the open against this fierce creature.
Let me kill it! A voice shouted in the back of his head. C’mon! Demon vs. demon! I’ll kill it!
Soreth would have let his soul take the fight, at least then he would have had more resistance to the wintry attacks. Nonetheless, he ignored the voice; it wasn’t just the other fire angels he was protecting, he was protecting Basa and he wouldn’t allow anyone else to protect her for him.
When the demon stopped his attack, Soreth rushed towards him, with what little feeling he had in his body. As he swung his hands upward to strike down, two flaming swords burst from his hands. He cut down, but the demon moved to the side. He took a slice at Soreth, but the angel ducked as he landed. The flaming swords came sweeping in at the demons lower torso, he dodged, but still the cut burned the demons skin.
