Well, the very best build-ups appear first as little hints. Subtle stuff. Like... maybe your god notices a shadow following him. Or a god-killing knife happens to come up missing. People start to look at him strangely... perhaps he starts to become a bit paranoid. Over time, these hints multiply, and the reader starts to figure out what's going to happen... usually before the character does. That way they anticipate the scene itself, are practically wriggling for it. |

Did this character have any particular token that he carried around all the time? A necklace, a ring? A helm, or a weapon? Something like that could be mounted on a simple tombstone or pole. It always makes the scene more emotional to have someone there when the item is placed, too, lamenting or discussing it. |

I guess that would depend on who writes it. If it's just an undertaker or something similar, what's on the marker would be pretty cut and dry. Born x, died y, RIP. But if it was a friend or even an enemy, that person should have something to say that would connect 'em to the living impaired. ^^ |
