I think the literary genre of forum posts sucks out loud. It is a genre devoid of book covers and binding, paper, and completely lacks for professionally mundane artwork. Plus, it's just too sporadic.

Bah! Forum-postings are interactive, right in the reality and so much better than any old dusty book of obsolete texts.

You dare mock the time honored institution of, uh, instituting things with dusty covers?

Oh, I guess you did. Good point, carry on. ^_^

Oh my goodness. Maybe it is only because of my passion for history and all things antique that I love bound books so. I collect books. A hobby that started with one 17 year old copy of The Three Musketeers given to me when I was 6 years old.

I love to sink myself into history and the written word. To curl up with a good book and loose reality for a couple hours. It is kind of difficult to curl up with a keyboard, a mouse and a 20 inch monitor.

I've tried this, and the moniter's boyfriend wasn't too pleased. >.>

A lot of things are going into digital format nowadays. I wonder if printed books will ever become obselete?

P)rinted books, obsolete? I doubt it. People like us will always be here to ensure that the printed word will continue. Besides, you can't lie in bed and read when everything's on a huge, glowing, headache-inducing computer screen.

I don't know. That is a sad thought to have. I remember when I was in grade school a few years back (hehe) watching a documentary of a scientific view of the future. By 2000 we were all dressing in super hero spandex, peaceful, books were a thing of the past, we had video phones, everyone was physically fit and we drove clean powered flying vehicles. Apparently, they were wrong, lol.

I've read 1984, and I don't remember any flying cars... *frown* Well, maybe I need to re-read... :-\

Ah, but who says book readers will remain huge, glowing, headache-inducing computer screens? I can envision a type of book viewer which very much resembles a book. You can even make the pages look as if they're on a paper background.

But don't fret. I don't think that's coming any time soon. And even if it does it won't be widespread for quite a while... Even then book lovers will be around. :)

For me, it's more the story than the book itself, and hey, if technology can save a few trees then maybe it's not such a terrible thing. Books will never die out, though.

Oh, hey! Maybe books in digital form will be cheaper... Oh, and just think... We already have blogs, once books are digital the costs of publishing will go down, and... wow... I can see a whole new world for books out there... Books written by amateurs spreading like wildfire over the internet...

*sighs a dreamy sigh* Ok, enough of that. :)
