CH 4 ::Infiltration::
As I sat alone in the cold dark room where they had led me, waiting for someone to come interrogate me, I replayed that moment in my mind. I tortured my self with what if questions and worried myself to the point of anxiety about her safety. I wasn’t able to save her or help her I wasn’t able to do anything for her. I bit my lip as I regretted everything I had probably just put her through. Finally a slim older male entered the room dressed like the man who stormed my home. He had grey hair indicating he was at least 40 and his eyes said he had been working a lot. For a while he just studied me and paced the room not saying a word. When he finally sat down her cleared his throat as if to talk but nothing. I studied him as he watched me. I assumed he was trying to figure me out. I wasn’t going to crack under his glare though and thought I might as well take the first stab at talking. “Where is she?” i said with a very cautious and low voice. I wasn’t looking at him when I spoke but I could tell his attitude had shifted and he was no longer looking me over. He did not respond to my question but asked one of his own instead. “this is a very serious crime you know.” I didn’t respond. If he wasn’t going to answer me I had no reason to answer him. I looked at the floor so I didn’t make eye contact with him. He started to chuckle at this thinking my stubbornness was apparently funny. “Mister Bardzecki harboring a government fugitive is a very serious crime you could be imprisoned for years unless you tell me something. Anything you know about this could help you. It could shorten your imprisonment” He was stern but reasonable but I didn’t want t answer him still. He was one of the men who caged her and hurt her I couldn’t trust him. As I sat there and stared at the floor I can up with a plan. He said I could shorten my imprisonment maybe even get me less bail money to owe. If I got out soon enough I could try to find a way to rescue her. I hoped my plan would work. “I didn’t know” I said looking up but not directly at him. “What do you mean you didn’t know” I clenched my fist as I looked at him. “I didn’t know okay! I didn’t know she was a fugitive for the government. That she was a killer a, a murderer, I found her on my property and took care of her she couldn’t remember a thing I didn’t know what to do.” He looked at me as if I was lying even though technically I wasn’t. until a week ago I didn’t know I hadn’t know since I found her. “Why didn’t you file a found person or look up missing persons?” here was where it got hard. At this point I had to bullshit everything and hope it worked. “I did look up missing persons. I never found anything describing a person like her. I looked as much as I could.” He grinned and I couldn’t tell if he bought my lie or not. “that is because she isn’t a person. She isn’t even human. She is an experiment no species to call her own.” Here him call her not human hit a nerve but I clenched my fist and held back the urge to get up right then and there and sock him in the face. He apparently hadn’t noticed my lie and I assumed that the government had to keep this kind of thing quite. Luckily he didn’t notice my reaction to what he had said and moved on. “so your saying you knew nothing at all about her belonging to the government. You didn’t think the animal traits were different” I shook my head “she look mostly human to me so I took care of her as if she was just another human” which to me she was cat ears and a tail didn’t matter. “Okay I think I got all I need. If you can post bail your free to go.” I looked at him with a smirk. “And how much will that be?” he glanced back at me with a very serious expression. “10,000 rubles.” Well that was not what I wanted to here. as the two guards who took me here escorted me to my cell I thought of a way to get my bail money. It was a long shot but it could work. I asked one of them if I could get my one phone call as you see on those movies. I had never been in prison or associated with anyone who had so I was purely going off what I had seen in movies and TV shows. One of them nodded and they led me to a black pay phone next to the chief’s desk. As I dialed I started getting anxious if this didn’t work I was screwed and so was fourteen. When I heard the other side pick up my stomach lifted a bit. That was half the reason I was worried that I would get the voicemail and that would be it. “hello?” the other line spoke through the phone. “Nadia! Its Edik. I…I need your help.” there was a long pause from her side as a waited for a reply. “what do you need?” she sounded concerned and I hoped it was enough concern to bail me out. “I’m, well I’m in jail.” The rest of the conversation was full of concern and worry from both sides. I told her which jail and how much money and she agreed to be down there as fast as she could. I was taken to a high security prison in Saint Petersburg and was held in solitary confinement since they still thought I was going to try to consort with other prisoners against the government or something. It was going to take at least a day for Nadia to get here living in the middle of Russia, but she was the closest person I could call. So as I waited I started to devise a plan to rescue fourteen from whatever they were putting her though I had a feeling she got out of there for a reason. I replayed in my mind what the man had said back at my cabin. He had mentions eight of his men had been killed by fourteen. I sat there wondering if he knew who he was talking about. Fourteen wouldn’t hurt anyone but for now I couldn’t keep thinking of that I had to figure out a way to get deep into the government and for that to happen I would need a little bit more of Nadia’s help. I had an idea the plan was going to be tough and brutal but I believed I would be able to do it. After hatching my plan I decided to try to sleep realizing I hadn’t gotten any in about a week, at least not much.
I awoke to the sound of my cell opening; I hadn’t realized I had slept so long. One of the guards came in and grabbed me by the arm. “You posted bail.” He wasn’t one of the nicest sounding people in the world but it was a good string of words coming out of his mouth. I had forgotten that the entrance was filled with fluorescent lights since I had been cooped up in my cell for a day or two. After adjusting my eyes to the light I saw Nadia standing at the desk talking to one of the security guards posted there. It was a happy sight until I saw who was next to her. She had brought one of my colleagues with her and not one of the better ones I might add. Fyodor Alvang, always trying to out-do me in whatever I did when we were in the institute. When we were little I wanted to take up systema martial arts but once I started so did he. He had become much stronger than me and thought it would be fun to gloat about it, though I had learned a lot myself. To this day admired and despised him. When Nadia looked over and noticed me she immediately hugged me. “Are you okay?” she asked as she let go of me. “What happened? Why are you in here? Where is well you know” I knew she was talking about fourteen and my heart sank. I looked over at Fyodor who until now I hadn’t noticed was in a military uniform. ‘ great’ I thought to myself. ‘he joined the military as well this was not good to bring him into this’ as I said those words to myself I rethought them. I had been in the A.F.R.F 6 years ago until my term was up. I wondered if I could reenlist It could probably get me deeper into the government if I pulled the right strings, especially since I had Nadia on my side. As I reassured Nadia that I was fine I figured out the rest of my plan, which I had to admit was much better than the one I had thought of in my cell. Nadia decided that I needed to go eat something so we went to a restaurant not too far from where we were. As we ate Nadia knew something was wrong with me and started asking a lot of questions. “Okay edik tell me what’s up where is fourteen? Why were you in jail? What is going on?” she got interrupted by Fyodor then who had quite a puzzled look on his face. “Who or what is fourteen? And yeah what were you doing in jail?” his expression never changed from the serious look he had at the prison only a little hint of his arched eyebrow told me he had no idea what was going on. I decided there wasn’t much more trouble I could get into I already played every consequence in my head if things came out wrong and I was ready for any of them, so I told Nadia and Fyodor what had happened and my plan to fix it all. They seemed into helping me with the plan but I don’t know if I could live with myself if I got them involved. True it would be much easier with both their help considering their perfect jobs. “no.” I told them. “I can’t let you two risk yourselves for me or her.” Fyodor slammed down his fist on the table which gave us a few awkward looks from the few people sitting near us. “Like hell, we’re helping you. I know we’ve had quarrels in the past but we help out each other when it is truly needed.” He said in a whisper realizing how many people were staring. I looked at Nadia who nodded in agreement with him. “Well okay” I said to them “but if things go bad you leave and you don’t say a word” they nodded but could tell I was stuck with them both no matter what happened. So from then on the plan went by slowly.
The first part was re-enlisting in the A.F.R.F which took a while. I got Nadia to forge a note and take my name out of any bad records. The note had stated that I was very important to the government and needed to stay close to the inside. I didn’t really know what she wrote just the gist of it. Normally they would have made me go through boot camp but because of her note they ranked me as a lieutenant and put me close with one of the generals. Luck came quickly in this plan because the general I was placed with was the one that had stormed my house that night. He hadn’t seemed to recognize me without my eye patch and my hair shaved which was good. Getting close to him was the next part gaining his trust and being his right hand man. This was going to get tricky. I got out of the army for a reason and it was the fact of the pointless bloodshed we caused. He sent me to a small town in Germany, Heidelberg, to take control of a riot that had broken out.
When I arrived I could see the sky gleaming red from the fires from my plane, this was not fun. I kept in my mind that this was how I was going to get close to him, senseless killings and control of the people. We drove down one of the main streets and fire was taking over the town. Looters ran through the streets setting fire to stores or throwing rocks threw windows it was pretty terrible. I was told to take control of the troops barricading the rioters. Everyone was so out of control but I knew how to get their attention. As high authority to the military I get a very wide assortment of ammunition. I didn’t need big ammunition this time though. Standing in the back of the troops I shoot of my flare gun about three times until everyone started to calm down. I walked to the front of my troops and ordered the first 3 rows to take out their guns. The rioters were still pretty out of control but after most of them saw the guns they had calmed. A few rioters tried to attack the troops when they saw these guns and because of that they were shot. I pushed the darkness down as I dropped all my emotions. I could not care who died here as long as I got order and cooperation form everyone. After everything calmed down we recorded who died. 23 rioters had been shot 14 injured and 7 of my men had been wounded or killed. In 17 hours I had controlled the city and contained the rioters I left my mine there to do pick up. As I headed back to base camp I got a call from Nadia. She told me I had proven my loyalties to the general and she had heard he was going to make me his right hand man. The plan was going off without a hitch.
