Recently revealed, Leigh Eddings helped her husband David write all of his novels. This is primarily due to the fact to only recently are female writers being truly accepted into the fantasy genre. Together the couple have spun many tales together that bring collectively all aspects of human nature.
The Belgariad begins with young Garion, his aunt Pol, and an old storyteller living on a prosperous farm. Forced to leave on a journey, Garion soon discovers his true roots lie in that of magic and power. With a band of friends and several powerful enemies, he, his aunt Polgara, and the most famous sorcerer in the world Belgarith seek to save the world from the dark god.
The Belgariad is a fairly decent read in that the plot is all encompassing; however there are dry spots to the writing where you think of stopping. However you shouldn’t quit as I discovered. With such a fun character like Silk and the constant bickering between father and daughter you’d be foolish not to keep reading. Overall, I’d give the book a four out of five for plot, characters, and some very cool magical ideas.
