Chapter 2
Around the time Emily started disappearing, Mirla asked herself one question: Why did she always have to get lost? She frowned. As usual, the elven girl had used the early morning hours to take her horse Arlot out for a ride in the forest, her young deagle Tara running beside the horse. Always ready for new adventures, she had taken small paths she had never used before, and now she was lost - as usual. Mechanically, she looked at her watch.
"Damn! I have to go back! Grandmother will be worried if I am not back in an hour!"
Whistling for Tara to follow her, Mirla decided to turn around and let the horse find its way out - Arlot had always found home, though not always on time ... As usual, he seemed to know exactly where he was going. Mirla just let him go, until suddenly, she heard her deagle bark.
"Not again! Tara! Come here!"
She jumped off Arlot's back and broke through the bushes in the direction she had heard her bark from. On the other end of the bushes, Mirla ended up on a huge clearing she had never seen before. A strange picture opened in front of her eyes: Her young deagle was barking at something that looked like... human legs?
That couldn't be. Why would a pair of legs without the rest of the body walk and stand around a clearing in this forest? Then suddenly, Mirla realized that it wasn't only legs any more. It seemed as if someone started appearing here. This had to be one of the dimension travelers she had heard legends about... Supposedly, her grandmother Molvena was one of them, but she had always refused to tell Mirla about it. The dimension travelers were said to be women who could travel from one dimension, or world as some called it, to another. There were only six of them at a time, and before the death of one, the gift was said to be reborn in a different person who then came to the old traveler to learn from her...
By the time Mirla remembered this part of the legend, the dimension traveler had already appeared up to her neck. Mirla watched closely, and suddenly, the traveler's head appeared all at once. Confusedly, the girl looked around, obviously surprised to be here. Then, she saw Mirla.
"Where am I?"
"You are in the world of Oleth, near the town of Grelenal. My name is Mirla."
"He-hello. I am Emily. How did I get here? I was at home, and suddenly I started disappearing..
. And now I am in this weird place. You look so different from anyone I've ever seen with your green skin.... Does everyone here look like that?"
Mirla was surprised to hear this. So the person in front of her had never traveled between worlds before... If the legends were true, she had to be here to meet Molvena. And that meant that Mirla's grandmother was soon going to die...
Quickly, Mirla shook off the thought.
"I ... I think you are one of the dimension travelers. A new one..."
Emily was confused.
"What? Dimension traveler ... I never even heard of those! But it explains a lot, yes..."
Mirla nodded.
"Where is your partner?"
"Partner? I don't have a partner! What are you talking about?"
Emily didn't understand anything any more. She just wanted to go home. Why would she be a dimension traveler? She was just a normal girl! This was confusing her more than anything ever had. And what was that talk about a partner? Then, suddenly, Mirla said:
"There he is!"
Behind Emily, a hand had appeared, and slowly, the rest of the body started to follow.
