Tears wouldn’t come to her eyes. She stood there aching, empty, everything the trashy novels pegged for the spurned lover, and she couldn’t seem to bring tears to her eyes. She stood cold, and calm, silver cool when her world was being ground under his heel.
“So you’re leaving then.” It came out flat, not the question she’d intended; a statement that he didn’t answer. No one said anything. She stood there strangely, slackly; her body drawled a viciously casual stance. He cast her one last hunted look she refused to translate and then turned back to the other woman there, standing arms crossed and arbitrary. His wife.
