Whenever I look up at the moon, I wonder who put it there. Was it really God, like they want me to believe? Was it really a meteor, like they want me to think? Is the moon a part of the earth, or an entity all to itself? Why do I have to question everything so thoroughly, and why doesn’t anyone else question it all like I do?
But I digress… the moon is a symbol, to me. It represents hope, dreams, faith, and honor. It’s my grip on a reality that I otherwise hate to share with the world at large. The moon… Luna… in her silvery white glory stands amidst infinite blackness, stating her claim to truth, to her right to shine brightly even in the dark of night. What does the sun know of darkness, in its all encompassing ‘holy’ light? It sneers and encroaches upon everything, until only the deepest and darkest shadows remain. Who cares for the beauty of the sun?
It’s them, those God worshipers. It’s the people who believe that sunshine is the only brightness in life, and that all else is dark, dreary, and grey. They don’t see beyond the grey to the beauty of the falling rain. People like them can’t understand how gorgeous life truly is, out amidst the falling tear drops of the sky… alone, and at night… they’ll never know, because they are vampires of the daylight. Moonlight is their enemy, shadows are their bane. ‘Sacred’ crosses and wooden stakes give them comfort, for God will save them in the end.
Feh.
God isn’t going to save you. You have to help save yourself. And a lot of people think that faith is enough. They think that following the words of their preachers, and prophets, and popes will lead them to eternal salvation. I ask, since when has following blind become such a grand idea?
No, I do not say they all follow blindly. I do not say that they all believe what they do out of habit, out of pure unwillingness to have a coherent thought of their own. But do those accursed fools not realize that God is all knowing, all loving, all forgiving? Is that not what they preach? And yet they believe he has but one truth, but one single church that is right, and just, and proper in all its ordinances. The single Heavenly Father he may be, but to not allow differences in faith and in belief between the billions of his children whom he knows are all different, how could you call that love?
I ask you, truly, why do you believe what you believe? Why should you? Have you ever thought to believe something else, to try another faith, to stare in the face of both immortality and death and ask them “Which one of you has taken more lives with you? Which of you is right?”
I do.
I do because, when I look at the moon, I cannot believe that only one answer is correct. I cannot think that, out of all the many truths, out of all the things that we don’t understand, that one answer is all there is to it. One. There is no one for anything. No one human being who gave life to us all, there were at least two. No one element above all others, an number 1 element, but no singular element to replace them all. Not one writing utensil for every hand, not one shirt size for every person, not one currency for the world, not one time for the world, except for now, and now always changes to then, and wishes to be then for all its days.
Mayhaps I am wrong. Just maybe I speak out of line, out of turn, and with a tongue which does not know its place. Or, maybe I’m right. I will not be the judge of my own words, besides in the judgment that stands with me in deciding which are right to be spoken, and which are better left unsaid.
You can judge, if you think it is your place to do so…
