She saw him from across the room, and for what she saw, he hadn't seen her. She rubbed her eyes fiercly and looked and looked again.
Caden was there and so was Logan and even the young Maxwell. The two others appeared to be enjoying themselves, but Caden looked miserable, just about as miserable as Emily looked and felt at the same time.
For two and a half years, she believed he was dead. She watched his life leave him, but somehow he was here right now and he was clearly living.
He had a scar now, from the accident. It ran over his left eye, which made it so he could no longer see out of that side.
Emily couldn't hold back the tears. She rushed into the back room behind the bar and sobbed into her hands. It wasn't only because he was clearly alive, or the fact that he looked just as sad and alone as she felt, it was because he had somehow wandered back into her life after she had tried so hard to avoid everyone from that time in her life. Even so, she kept to her word and she was too stubborn to do otherwise.
She convinced herself that it was enoughto know he was still alive... or at least tried to convince herself of it.
