Lace&Fuzzy Cuffs is a contest for writing concerning sex, plain and simple. Nothing has shaped life on this planet like sex has; indeed, much of our daily lives revolves around it. This contest is for writers to not only express their fantasies, but to improve their writing through penning tales outside of their comfort zone.

What we are looking for is clever, imaginative writing. If you've ever heard the phrase 'don't tell me, show me' when talking about writing, you know what we want. Anyone can describe having sex - it takes talent to do so without naming body parts.

By the way. For WritersCo's sake, you should stick a warning label on any erotic writing you upload here.

Guidelines

Please...

1. ... only submit poetry or prose of 1000 words or less.

2. ... do not submit violent or gory pieces. This is a mature contest, yes, but only in that it accepts sexually explicit material. More on violence later.

3. ... homosexual pieces are allowed.

4. ... do not use any real names excepting your own.

5. ... do not write about characters under the age of eighteen.

6. ... be tasteful. More on this later.

7. ... direct questions to [Mister Saint].

8. ... use standard written English. Alternate spellings (i.e. armour/armor) are fine, just don't try to make any up. Paragraph format, double quotes around dialogue and so forth.

9. ... don't complain about the subject matter. There is a warning posted, and this contest is not going to scar minds any more than morning cartoons.

10. ... this is very important! Before entering the contest for the first time, entrants must send [Mister Saint] a message with the code word found on this page. Entrants who have not done so will be disqualified come time to judge the contest!

On Violence

Some writers may choose to include elements of bondage/submission/domination fantasies in their work. This is permitted, but please pay special attention to keeping the graphic violence down. We're exploring the beauty of love and sex here. If it would horrify the average schmuck, don't use it. If I think there is too much violence in the piece, I will speak to you about it... but this probably won't come up.

On Taste

Being tasteful is subjective, I know. We're adhering to the rule above. If it would horrify the average schmuck, don't use it. Fetishes in general would not be something to write about, for example. I'm not going into details and I'll trust that entrants understand. By the way, the code word is feathers. Again, if I think there's too much we'll talk.

As far as language goes, I think that being tasteful means not slinging around certain words. I hope that a good writer would not, for example, use the word 'asshole' in any manner other than to refer to an unpleasant person. Again, I'll avoid lengthy specifics. As far as this goes, we're looking for erotica as opposed to pornography.

The best definition I've heard of this came from a college poetry textbook, quoting someone else I cannot remember.

"Erotica is what I like. Pornography is what you like."
